On June 20, from 9-11 am, Western Colorado Alliance will sponsor their second farm tour of the 2026 series when we get the opportunity to look at Lifetime Ag in Loma! Lifetime Ag offers cover crop and perennial seed to the farmers of Western Colorado and Eastern Utah. The farmers at Lifetime Ag practice the “six principles of soil health.” As they evolved their operations to follow those principles, they realized that the more they worked to take care of their soil, the better it took care of them. Western Colorado Alliance will be hosting two separate meetings on June 14 which will permit you to meet, hear, and ask questions of two more important Colorado candidates. At 10 am, join us at the Alliance offices at 601 N. 1st Street to meet Jena Griswold, current Secretary of State and candidate for Attorney General. Then, at 11:30, we will host Hetal Doshi, who is also running for Attorney General. We are excited to have the opportunity to share with these candidates our concerns for Western Colorado, and to highlight the issues we have been working on. We hope you'll join us!

Congrats to our members at Uncompahgre Valley Alliance for successfully securing funding from Montrose City Council for All Points Transit!

“It never would have happened if it hadn’t been for the Uncompahgre Valley Alliance,” said Gary Clark, Director of All Points Transit in a May interview on WKRP Montrose. “Those guys brought it to our attention, frankly. They helped us through the whole process. They were really good advocates for us, so I really appreciated everything they did for us.”

Our friends at Ela Family Farms are getting ready to host their annual farm tour and campout this weekend! Camp in their orchard at 30753 L Rd in Hotchkiss on Saturday night and wake up for a walking tour of the farm on Sunday morning. The tour will run from 10 am to 12 pm and will show attendees how to grow fruit using sustainable practices. Show your support for an amazing local farm, and spend a beautiful weekend celebrating nature, farming, and local food.

Please join Western Colorado Alliance (along with our friends at GreenLatinos and 350 Colorado for a virtual Comment Writing Workshop on Monday, June 1 at 6 pm! Trump's Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is selling out our public lands to private oil and gas industry at an unprecedented rate. So far this year, over 228,000 acres of Colorado’s public land have been proposed for oil and gas leasing. Thankfully, we have the opportunity to use our voices and speak up for our public lands. Come join our Alliance to learn about the threats to our public lands, learn how to write comments, and tell the BLM that Colorado’s public lands belong in public hands!

Last week Dodi from J&D Heirloom Seeds in Montrose hosted residents of the Western Slope for an incredible tour of his farm!

Thank you to everyone who attended and especially to Dodi for sharing his methods for growing abundant produce while improving soil health and saving heirloom seeds. We really enjoyed our visit, and we hope to see everyone at future tours this season!
