Public comment periods matter, but a meaningful comment is more than simply saying “I support this” or “I oppose this.”

With new opportunities for public input happening regularly on issues that affect motorized recreation and public lands, we want to help our community understand how to participate effectively.

You don't need to be a land-use expert. You don't need to know every law, policy, or acronym. Your firsthand experience and knowledge of the places you recreate can be valuable.

The key is knowing how to turn that experience into a useful public comment.

Save this graphic for the next time you see a call for public comment. Better participation starts with understanding the process.

Thanks to everyone who came out for the meet and greet! The sun tucked in behind some clouds, and made for a nice evening. The amazing part of the gathering, was the old iron that showed up. first a CJ7, then a very early CJ5, then a CJ3, then a CJ8. It was like drawing a straight flush. (looking for a cj6). Several more modern Jeeps showed up as well as a Chevy. All fine examples of the 4x4 world.

Today, U.S. Forest Service has filed a proposed rule to rescind the national 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule in its entirety.

For over 25 years, this rule has restricted road construction and limited the Forest Service's ability to carry out critical active management work within inventoried roadless area.

The rescission intends to prioritize local agency decision-making over regulatory rules that are the same across the country, regardless of specific land management issues and needs.
