Heartland CASA Heartland CASA, founded in 1995, serves Hall, Hamilton, Howard, and Merrick Counties in central Nebraska.

In 2025, Heartland CASA volunteers & staff advocated on behalf of over 125 children in care to ensure they received safe and permanent homes.

Today is the one day of the year when your cat officially allows affection...

Well, maybe. 😹

Let's be honest:
🐾 Cats believe they own the house.
🐾 They supervise all our activities.
🐾 They demand snacks on their schedule.
🐾 And somehow, we're grateful for it.

So today, give your favorite feline an extra hug (if they'll allow it), a few extra treats, and let them continue ruling the kingdom.

While you're celebrating your furry friend, remember that many children in foster care could use a little extra love and support, too. That's where CASA volunteers come in. By advocating for children who have experienced abuse or neglect, CASA volunteers help ensure every child has someone in their corner.

🍎☀️ FREE SUMMER MEALS FOR KIDS! ☀️🍎

School may be out, but nutritious meals are still on the menu!

Beginning June 1, 2026, free breakfast and lunch will be available to all children and teens ages 1–18 through the Grand Island Public Schools Summer Meals Program. No registration, identification, or enrollment in GIPS is required.

📍 Meal Sites:
• Dodge Elementary (June 1 – July 17)
• Howard Elementary (June 1 – June 26)
• Shoemaker Elementary (June 1 – June 26)
• Starr Elementary (June 1 – July 17)
• West Lawn Elementary (June 1 – July 17)
• Grand Island Senior High (Breakfast Only: June 1 – June 27)

🥣 Breakfast:
Monday–Thursday
7:30–8:00 AM
(Shoemaker until 8:15 AM)

🥪 Lunch:
Monday–Friday
11:00 AM–12:30 PM

No child should go hungry during the summer months. This program helps ensure children in our community continue to have access to healthy, nutritious meals while school is out.

Adults may also purchase meals for $5.50.

Ever wish there was a superhero whose special power was sitting through meetings, making phone calls, reading reports, and fighting for kids?

Good news... there is. 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️

They're called CASA volunteers.

No capes. No flying. No super strength. (Although surviving a three-hour court hearing might count.)

CASA volunteers advocate for children who have experienced abuse or neglect, making sure their voices are heard and their best interests are front and center.

So if you've ever wanted to be a hero but weren't excited about wearing tights or battling aliens, CASA might be the perfect fit.

Children in foster care need more than just services — they need stability, support, and caring connections.

This month, we honor the children, families, foster parents, advocates, and community members who work together to help children feel safe and supported.

Not everyone is able to become a foster parent, but you can still make a meaningful difference in a child’s life by becoming a CASA volunteer. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) provide consistent support and advocacy for children navigating the foster care system and help ensure their voices are heard.

Together, we can help build brighter futures and stronger connections for every child.

Today, we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

On this Memorial Day, Heartland CASA extends our gratitude to those who gave their lives protecting the freedoms we enjoy every day. We also remember the families and loved ones who continue to carry their legacy forward.

Please note: Our office will be closed today in observance of Memorial Day and will reopen during normal business hours tomorrow.
