! 🎃 Father Flanagan grew up celebrating Halloween. When he founded Boys Town, he included the holiday as one of the Home’s annual celebrations. Days before , the boys would gather old clothes and hats and, with help from the nuns, make costumes. In school, art projects included making paper displays of pumpkins and witches to decorate classrooms. On Halloween, the boys gathered for a large costume party that included bobbing for apples and eating hot dogs and candy. They also went trick-or-treating around the Village and surrounding farms. Weather permitting, a large bonfire was lit so everyone could roast marshmallows and make s’mores. These simple traditions provided cherished memories for many of the boys.
