There is an issue that could affect our Lake. Please pay attention and act!

Consumers Energy is asking the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for permission to drill two deep wells at the J.H. Campbell plant in West Olive, very close to Lake Michigan. These wells would be used to pump industrial liquid waste deep underground.

Why this matters
The EPA calls the waste “non-hazardous,” but that does not always mean risk-free, especially near Lake Michigan, one of our most important water resources.

The EPA has also said they are prepared to approve this unless there is strong public interest.
Right now there are only about 59 comments total. That is very low.

Bottom line
If more people speak up, the EPA may hold a public hearing so our community can ask questions and learn more.

Here is how to comment. It takes about a minute.

I oppose the proposed underground injection wells at the J.H. Campbell plant. “Non-hazardous” does not mean safe, especially this close to Lake Michigan. This decision may affect our water and should not move forward without a public hearing. Please require a public hearing and take a closer look at the long-term risks.

If you have been looking for a simple way to make your voice heard on a local issue, this is it.

Thank you for taking a minute to help.
