Non-profit mental health facility, equine assisted psychotherapy and Thoroughbred aftercare. Who are we? We take most insurances including Medicaid.

Out Side In is both an outpatient mental health treatment facility and a functioning horse farm that specializes in rescuing off-track thoroughbred race horses. Utilizing Equine Assisted Psychotherapy our licensed therapists treat a wide variety of emotional, behavioral, and mental health issues. We bring therapy outside of the four walls of a typical therapist’s office and utilizing “strengths pe

rspective” methodology, the therapists and the horses help clients to learn to cope with life’s difficulties in a non-traditional environment. Equine Assisted Psychotherapy utilizes horses as a tool and a catalyst for not just reaching the clients, but as a mirror into one’s own emotions. Horses are emotional creatures and can often sense what we are feeling before we can. As the client participates in structured activities both on horseback and on the ground, they develop the ability to recognize their issues and find the strength to face those issues head on. EAP has been proven to be effective in treating depression, anxiety, PTSD, RAD, ODD, and ADHD, just to name a few. We have been rescuing thoroughbred racehorse right off of the racetrack for a few years now. What is special about our program is that it is our clients who help us to rehabilitate, restore, retrain and eventually rehome our rescued horses. The two missions of our facility, the therapy component and the horse rescue component weave together to form something unique and very special

CALLING ALL VETERANS!!

What do veterans and retired Thoroughbred racehorses have in common?

More than most people realize.

Both have trained for a specific mission. Both have performed under pressure. Both have faced challenges that others may never fully understand. And when that chapter ends, both are often left navigating a new identity, a new purpose, and a new path forward.

Join us for our Heroes for Horses One-Day Intensive workshop.

At Out Side In, we’ve witnessed the powerful parallels between veterans and Thoroughbreds transitioning into life after service. Through this unique one-day intensive, veterans will work alongside retired racehorses while exploring the challenges of transition, resilience, trust, and finding purpose beyond the role they once knew.

Together, veterans will:
-Connect with others who understand the military experience
-Explore the emotional and practical challenges of transition
-Work hands-on with retired Thoroughbred horses
-Discover strengths, insights, and opportunities for growth through the horse-human connection
-Learn about other opportunities in the Heroes for Horses programs at Out Side In.

Whether your military service ended recently or years ago, this program offers a supportive environment to reflect, reconnect, and move forward alongside fellow veterans.

No horse experience is necessary.

Out Side In is so happy to be able to announce they have been awarded $26,500 from Tri-Cities Women Who Care to expand our programs. With the funds we are able to hire two new therapists to help meet the demand for services and better serve our community! Our biggest thank you to all of the amazing women who participate in this organization and do so much good!

Here we are again on Thoroughbred Thursday educating our community about how amazing OTTBs can be! Our wonderful Mambo helped the kids from Grand Haven High School's XP program learn about the experience of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and retraining of OTTBs for a life outside the racetrack!
