It is really important that our local Lions support the upcoming convention in October. First, it is going to be a great convention and secondly to make it a success we need everyone to pitch in and register. Numbers matter in this case and hosting a convention is expensive yet Grand Forks and Zone 3 stepped forward. We're doing our part now we need you to do yours by supporting the convention. The 2026 ND Lions Convention is just around the corner please complete the registration form and return as indicated. Thanks Coach Schmidt!

Each week just keeps getting better and better. This past week the Grand Forks South Forks Lions were pleased do have University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks Head Coach Eric Schmidt join us for breakfast and give an update on the upcoming season. Coach Schmidt spoke of the work the team is putting in already as team members are working hard in the weight room in anticipation of the football season just around the corner. The Coach fielded many questions related to the process the goes on now days with all the new rules, NIL, number of scholarships etc. and after all of that, working to develop the young men into the best they can be, in the classroom, public and on the team. We thank Coach Schmidt for his taking time during this busy time as he prepares his team to do the best they can this season. Thanks Coach! Thanks Mike.

The Grand Forks Lions recently had the pleasure of Grand Forks Public Schools Activity Director Mike Biermaier speak to the club. What we learned is that he is one busy guy. Coordinating a wide variety of activities that occur on a daily basis in the school system is an ongoing challenge. Thankfully Mike says that he has great help particularly in the High Schools as there are Athletic Directors in each. When you think of all the various sports happening in any given week at one school let alone the other high school and then the middle schools one can see the challenge of making it all work. The South Forks Lions thank Mike for his taking the time to speak with us. Lion of the Year
Recently the Grand Forks South Forks Lions Club held their annual passing of the baton from current President Pete Tunseth to incoming President Gerry Keenan. In addition to this change in leadership the outgoing President (Tunseth) has a special privlege of naming the Lion of the Year. This years Lion of the Year award goes to a highly deserving Lion that is constantly working in the background for the club as club Treasurer. He also participates in all the service activities he can while running his business (Grease Monkey) here in Grand Forks. Without further ado, this past years Lion of the Year goes to Ross Jorgensen. Welcome Lion Gerry to your new role leading the club and congratulations to Lion Ross for another outstanding year of dedication to the South Forks Lions. Wow, the 50th Annual Lions All-Star Basketball games in Fargo last night were fantastic. Congratulations to all the players and fans that got to experience it. A special recognition to the Bismarck Capital City Lions and Fargo Gateway Lions clubs for the continued excellence in hosting these games. Most will not understand how much work goes into this event, if fact I’m guessing you all are already looking at next years games. You wear the badge of “We Serve” extremely well, Congratulations.
