Lake Agassiz AMS Chapter Page for the Lake Agassiz local chapter of the American Meteorological Society, serving the Red River Valley.

Founded in 1981, the Lake Agassiz Chapter of the American Meteorological Society has provided a place of gathering for weather professionals and hobbyists for over 35 years in the Grand Forks area. As a local chapter, we strive to increase public awareness of meteorology in all its phases and applications. We believe it is our duty to ensure the public is prepared for hazardous weather, and, in th

e event that hazardous weather strikes, we aim to make sure those affected receive the help they need. Our semi-monthly meetings and events act as a catalyst upon which practitioners and enthusiasts of the atmospheric sciences can interact, socialize, and collaborate. At each meeting, an invited speaker discusses an exciting aspect of local weather. Recent discussion topics and ideas include upcoming Northern Great Plains flood risk, weather modification and cloud seeding, local tornado history, severe weather preparedness, and many more.
