This small bin holds about 600 fake IDs, all collected by a single bar in Grand Forks. They look very real but a forensic scanner detected them. This technology, in addition to changing what we consider normal in our culture, can help prevent underage drinking and the negative consequences that stem from it.

I learned about the ID scanners yesterday while attending ND's statewide Impaired Driving Task Force meeting. The task force members -- who bring a wide variety of professional perspectives -- shared how they are working on prevention, intervention and accountability to improve public safety and improve lives. I led a discussion about several legislative proposals that could also contribute to these goals. Stay tuned for details.
