Grand Canyon Conservancy is the official nonprofit partner of Grand Canyon National Park, raising private funds, operating retail shops within the park, and providing premier educational programs about the natural and cultural history of the region. Our donors fund projects including trails and historic building preservation, educational programs for the public, and the protection of wildlife and

their natural habitat. We exist to support Grand Canyon National Park in its goal to provide enriching and fulfilling visitor experiences and protecting the park for future generations. We achieve this by establishing a continuous and growing funding stream, providing enhanced educational experiences, and engaging advocates for the park. As the official philanthropic and collaborative partner of Grand Canyon National Park, Grand Canyon Conservancy's mission is to inspire generations of park champions to cherish and support the natural and cultural wonder of Grand Canyon.

As we continue to celebrate Pride Month, we're revisiting a special episode of Grand Canyon Podcast "Behind the Scenery" from Pride Month 2024 featuring Grand Canyon National Park Superintendent Ed Keable.

In this conversation, Ed reflects on his path to Grand Canyon and shares why representation matters in our national parks. As he explains, “The National Park Service excels at telling the story of America, and we tell the whole story. We haven't always told the whole story, but we are committing ourselves to doing that.”

Celebration of Art Artist Spotlight: Michelle Condrat

Michelle Condrat was born and raised in Salt Lake City, where she still resides. After earning Art and Art History degrees from the University of Utah, she became a full-time artist focused on the landscapes of Utah and the Southwest, including the Wasatch Mountains, Zion National Park, and the Grand Canyon. She gathers subject matter by photographing her surroundings and travels.

Her style is often described as “digital” or “architectural,” defined by layered linear and blended strokes, bold color choices, and a style that creates motion and depth with a modern impressionist flair.

"Beauty is all around us, whether it's from the extraordinary to the plain, the colorful or the dreary, or from the exciting to the mundane. As an artist, I try to open my eyes and see things in a different way and to express it with my brushstrokes and color choices. Through my art, I hope to bring out all parts of our world whether they are iconic or overlooked, and remind people that in all things there is beauty, all you have to do is open your eyes and see it. "

- Michelle Condrat

Save the date: One Grand Day is almost here!

On June 23, supporters, visitors, partners, and friends of Grand Canyon will come together for 24 hours of giving to celebrate and invest in the park we all love.

Every gift made during One Grand Day provides unrestricted support, allowing funds to go where they're needed most across Grand Canyon National Park. From trail and historic preservation to science and research, educational programs, tribal co-stewardship initiatives, wildlife protection, and North Rim recovery efforts, your generosity helps protect and strengthen the canyon in countless ways.

You can be part of it by making a gift, sharing the campaign with your community, and helping spread the word. Every action helps ensure Grand Canyon remains a source of wonder, learning, and inspiration for generations to come.

Hiking with kids in the inner canyon? Think twice during extreme heat.

Canyon rangers are seeing an increase in heat-related incidents involving children on inner canyon trails. In recent days, rangers have assisted young hikers experiencing heat-related distress and medical emergencies during extreme temperatures.

Children are especially vulnerable to heat illness. Their bodies do not regulate temperature as efficiently as adults, they produce more heat relative to their size, and they may not recognize or communicate when something is wrong.

Young children depend entirely on caregivers to monitor hydration, nutrition, and signs of heat stress. Even children riding in backpack carriers can overheat, as carriers may trap body heat despite providing shade. A child who appears to be sleeping may actually be experiencing heat-related illness.

Parents and caregivers are also at risk. Rangers frequently encounter adults who become dehydrated or exhausted after giving their water, snacks, or attention to their children. When a caregiver becomes ill, everyone in the group is at greater risk.

This week, temperatures in the inner canyon are expected to reach dangerous levels, with highs reaching 110°F at Phantom Ranch under an Extreme Heat Warning.

💧 If you choose to hike:
• Start before sunrise and avoid hiking during the hottest part of the day
• Carry and drink plenty of water and electrolytes
• Eat frequent snacks and meals
• Soak yourself—or at a minimum your shirt—at water faucets and creeks to help cool your body
• Monitor every member of your group for signs of heat illness
• Turn around before anyone becomes fatigued, lethargic, or distressed

🚨 Altered mental status, confusion, disorientation, or unusual behavior are signs of a life-threatening heat emergency. Seek help immediately.

The safest choice during excessive heat is to save your inner canyon hike for a cooler day.
