I’ve been informed that Park HQ and the Visitors Center are both without power. Only the east side of the park may be affected. What a huge relief that would be!

Like many of you, I just learned we have approximately 36 minutes before APS will shut off the electricity! If you were at home and able to take these steps, please do:

You’ve got enough time to make a real difference—focus on keeping food cold as long as possible and protecting anything perishable.

1) Lock in the cold

* Keep your fridge and freezer doors closed from now on.
* A closed fridge keeps food safe ~4 hours; a full freezer ~48 hours (24 if half full).

2) Move your most perishable items

Prioritize anything that spoils fast:

* Meat, poultry, fish
* Dairy (milk, cheese, yogurt)
* Eggs
* Cooked leftovers

👉 If your freezer has space, move these items into the freezer now.

3) Add cold mass (this really helps)

* Fill containers or zip bags with water and put them in the fridge/freezer.
* Freeze whatever you can quickly (even partially frozen items help).
* If you have ice packs, put them in both the fridge and the freezer.

4) Group items together

* Keep food packed tightly—this helps it stay cold longer.
* Put the most important items together so they stay colder.

5) Set up a backup cooler (if you have one)

* Put ice or frozen items in a cooler.
* Move your highest-value perishables there (like meat or meds that need refrigeration).

6) Turn your fridge colder (right now)

* Set fridge and freezer to the coldest settings before power goes out.

7) After the power goes out

* Open the fridge as little as possible.
* If you’re unsure later:
* Food above 40°F for over 2 hours = toss it
* When in doubt, throw it out

Quick priority checklist (do this in order)

1. Close doors
2. Move perishables to the freezer
3. Add ice/water containers
4. Pack items tightly
5. Prep cooler
6. Higher temp setting

Do you know about the Arizona Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP)? 🌽🥕

The Arizona Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) is a federally supported program that increases access to fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables for individuals who may face barriers to healthy food—while also strengthening Arizona’s local food system.

Through FMNP, eligible WIC participants and seniors (60+) receive coupon booklets to use at approved farmers markets and farm stands across the state. This makes it easier to afford nutritious foods and connect directly with local farmers.

💡 Why is FMNP important?
• Improves access to fresh, seasonal produce
• Supports the health of families and older adults
• Boosts local economies by investing in Arizona farmers
• Encourages community connections through farmers markets

By bridging the gap between local agriculture and community health, FMNP plays a key role in building a more equitable and resilient food system in Arizona. Coupons are limited and available first come, first served, so be sure to apply early!
