Our donkeys are rescued, but have a greater purpose in their new life as Therapy Donkeys, helping individuals and families overcome life’s challenges of mental health. With decades of history in rescuing animals, Tracy Miller (President) and Vicki Miller (Treasurer and Secretary) made the decision to form a 501(c)3 nonprofit equine rescue to assist horses, donkeys and mules that have been starved,
abused, neglected and/or deprived of a healthy and loving life. Rescue is not only a refuge for these deserving animals to rehabilitate, but is also a sanctuary for those that have physical or medical issues to live out their lives without fear of being returned to a negative lifestyle. The rescue depends on donations to help with daily operations, feed, medical supplies, veterinarian costs, travel to-and-from rescue situations, educational programs for students and general public, vehicle and trailer maintenance for animal transportation, and more. Rescue has a Board of Directors made up of 12 members, each with their own personal equine backgrounds, business management, computer technology, veterinarian and law degrees. This diversity in board members is crucial to the understanding and mission of the rescue's operation, as well as animal care and business decisions. The main operation is run by Tracy and Vicki Miller, and supported by not only the Board of Directors, but many volunteers who believe in the mission of the rescue and well-being of each of the rescued animals. Several of the board members are directly involved with allowing animals on their property for temporary hosing so as to allow for needed space at the rescue. Other members are active in heading up projects that benefit the future, such as fencing and grading, while others are in charge of volunteers and/or fundraising and marketing. Why we do what we do is not only a passion for the animals and naturally, doing what we feel is right... But, horses, donkeys and mules helped in shaping Texas! Cowboys and cattle drives are some of the first images conjured up when thinking about Texas. And it wasn't just horses. Donkeys and mules were just as much a part of the land that was once wild. Pack animals carried supplies for many an individual and wagon trains. Many of those wagons were pulled by mules! As Texans, we all all indebted to the animals that carved out lives in this country! We at T.E.X.A.S. Rescue recognize the sacrifices made by so many of those animals, and we feel it is our responsibility to protect any of their heritage that we can. As the saying goes, "it takes a village". There are many folks that feel the way we do about equines, but possibly do not have the time or space for a rescue. The way they can help is through donations... either monetary or in material items. There are tools that constantly wear out and need replace, but most important to these wonderful creatures is haying supplements. We have taken on the responsibility of offering the hands-on care, but donations can go a long way in helping these animals. If someone has a desire to help as a volunteer, we welcome you! If you have no prior experience with equines, no worries! There are so many aspects of rescue work that need addressing. If you wish to learn how to care for these animals, we will also offer you free education in the form of classes and seminars! All that is right here on our property! Education is available to adults, children and Veterans! We could go on and on as to benefits of our rescue of these creatures, as well as the assistance from other, but we encourage you to contact us for further information that may be applicable to you, personally! Remember, its all about the animals! You can be a part in so many ways! Thank you for your time and consideration. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. Sincerely,
Tracy and Vicki Miller
