The Monroe-Grambling
Chapter of The Links, Inc. was the 34th chapter
in the Southern Area. The chapter was chartered April 14, 1973. The installation service was held in the home of Dora Rowan. The 16 charter members were: Minnie T. Bai-ley, Corinne Carpenter, Etta Davenport, Melba Douglas Goree, Fannie Dunn, Alice Jackson, Irene Jackson, Odalie McDonald, Mildred Moss, Gloria Parsee Myles, Hattie Perkins, Emily Robinson, Oretha Robinson, Dora Rowan, Jo Ella Williams and Cora Woodard.
Odalie McDonald was the first president, and the first officers were Gloria Myles (vice president), Alice Jackson (recording secretary), Cora
Woodard (treasurer) and Mildred Moss (financial secretary).
Presently there are 26 members of the chapter, including five charter mem-bers. Present officers are: Melba J. Goree (president), Roylene
Jones (vice presi-dent), Clarease Isby (recording secre-tary), Shirley Henderson (financial secretary) and Shirley Jackson (treasurer).
The Monroe-Grambling Links, with their chairperson, Link Catherine Williams, had their first National Walk for Health and Hunger on Sept. 30, 1995. The 50+ participants enjoyed the brisk walk and were served a snack at the end of the walk.

Radio walked with us and provided a personal interview for our president, Link Melba Goree, about the purpose of the National Walk. On Nov.
27, 1994, the Links held a Diabetes Workshop for the community at the Zion Traveler Baptist Church in Monroe, La.
The International Trends and Services of the Monroe-Gram-bling Chapter observed United Nations and Human Rights
Day by presenting a cultural symposium, The Plight of Rwanda, at New Rocky Valley Baptist Church in Grambling, Brown was the chairperson of International Trends and Services, and Link Anne Williams served as moderator.
Dr. Geoffrey Rugege, head of the English department at
Grambling State University, was the guest presenter. He is a native of Rwanda.
On December 4-15, the International Trends and Services Committee, chaired by Link Betty Hawthorne, held its Kwanzaa Reading Project.
Link Swedie Rutledge, a member of the committee, set up a display that represented Kwanzaa for the children at Alma J.
Brown Magnet Elementary School in Grambling and Minnie Ruffin Elementary School in Monroe, La.
