In today's board member profile, we introduce our Board Secretary, Melissa Winston:
What do you do professionally, and what do you enjoy most about it?
I'm a business owner and therapist. My very favorite part is helping people, especially in their most important relationships! But I also love that every hour is a new adventure! Owning the business also gives me lots of diverse challenges and things to do. As an ADHD person, this keeps me motivated and excited about the work every day because it's NEVER boring.
What’s one thing you love about Grain Valley?
I love the small town feel and safety of raising kids in a community where people knew their names and cared about them, where you can know and trust your neighbors - but with the amenities of a big city right up the street. It's the perfect blend of both worlds!
Why did you choose to get involved with the chamber?
I believe that if you want your community to be great, you have to be part of the solution. It was also important to me that mental health has a voice in the conversation among leaders in our area. It's truly a privilege to be one of those voices, and I so appreciate the open arms reception from the amazing professionals I have the privilege of working with on this board.
Early bird or night owl?
Total night owl. It's so unfortunate that most adulting happens in the morning. Someday I hope to grow up and join the cool adults club.
Hidden talent?
I love to decorate! I'm not sure that's a super hidden talent because I do it a lot. Maybe a hidden talent that most people wouldn't know is that I make a killer Alfredo sauce that rivals any restaurant I've ever been to. It's my favorite!
