Who We Are

S.A.F.E. Food Ministry opened its doors at 9 a.m. on May 21, 2013. S.A.F.E. has served families almost every Tuesday and Saturday since then. S.A.F.E. is closed the first Saturday of every month. S.A.F.E. has seen consistent, although unpredictable, growth in the number of families served each month.

Our Volunteers Are The Backbone of Our Ministry

S.A.F.E. volunteers stock shelves, fill bags, purchase extra food, write thank you notes, and take the time to talk with and interview each family each time they visit to determine their needs. Some volunteers come every week - others commit one day a month. Each volunteer makes a difference in the lives of the families served at S.A.F.E.

Every Person Who Walks Through Our Doors is Important

S.A.F.E. serves approximately 20 families each time we are open. On a given day there may be as few as 8 families or as many as 40! Food insecure families come from across Alamance County to receive food at S.A.F.E. While some families live on fixed incomes and need assistance every month, other families only come to S.A.F.E. for assistance once or twice, enabling them to make it through a particularly difficult season in their lives.

Each family typically receives:

Two paper bags of non-perishable items (approx. 25 lbs. each)

A box of perishable items including milk and meat and any eggs, fruits, vegetables and breads that have been donated.

If we have pet food, paper products and/or cleaning supplies available, we will offer these as well.

Families are invited to return once a month, as needed.
