UPDATE — June 12, 2026 | More Time, But Not a Solution

Taylor County Neighbors — we have news, and we want you to understand what it means.

The West Virginia Department of Human Services has extended Family Support Center grants through September 2026 while the state evaluates long-term TANF funding decisions. We can keep the lights on — for now.

Thank you to everyone who called, emailed, and shared. Your voices made a difference.

But we need you to keep going.

We still have no new contract. No word on what comes after September. No clarity on invoicing going forward. An extension is not a commitment. The uncertainty is not over — it has just been delayed.

Taylor County families have counted on these programs since 2008. The food pantry. Circle of Parents. Emergency help when there was nowhere else to turn. Nearly two decades of showing up — and the future is still not secure.

Here's what you can do RIGHT NOW:

📞 Call Governor Morrisey's office: 304-558-2000.

Tell them Taylor County needs a fully funded contract — not just more time.
💻 Contact the Governor online: https://governor.wv.gov/contact-us/office-governor

One paragraph. Your story. That is enough.

🔁 Share this post. Every voice helps.

The Legislature funded these programs. The Governor signed the budget. The contracts still have not come. We are grateful for the extension — and we will not stop until the job is done.

With no state contract signed just weeks before the new fiscal year, the future of crucial family support programs in Taylor County remains completely up in the air.

⬆️ UPDATE — Evening of June 9, 2026

We are updating this post as the situation continues to develop. Please check back for the latest information.

Taylor County Neighbors, We Need You. Right Now.

The new fiscal year begins July 1. Taylor County Family Resources — our Family Resource Network — and the Taylor County Family Support Center still do not have contracts from the State of West Virginia. No contracts. No budget. No word on when either is coming.

These are not the same funding stream. The FRN contract does not rely on TANF dollars. The FSC contract does. Both are being held. That means the full backbone of family support services in Taylor County is at risk — and has been since before the fiscal year even begins.

First, we want to say thank you. Our Taylor County legislators did their job. They worked hard on the state budget, they funded these programs, and they showed up for the families they represent. We are grateful. The Legislature did its part — and we want our community to know that.

The problem is not with our legislators. The budget was passed. Governor Morrisey signed it into law nearly three months ago. The contracts that allow local programs to operate simply have not been released. West Virginia holds more than $83 million in unobligated TANF reserves. There is no reason for families to wait.

Taylor County families have counted on these programs since 2008. The food pantry. Circle of Parents. Playgroup. Emergency help when there was nowhere else to turn. Nearly two decades of showing up — and right now, all of it is hanging.

This is bigger than Taylor County. Across West Virginia, FRNs and FSCs together are the community infrastructure that holds families together before crisis hits. FRNs serve 52 of 55 counties, employ 204 West Virginians, and leverage every $1 of state funding into 10x in additional community resources. FSCs serve 35,000+ families statewide, support 230+ jobs, and return up to $4.93 for every $1 invested — through reduced child welfare costs and stronger families.

“Family Support Centers are the local backbone of West Virginia’s child abuse prevention system. Cutting them does not save money. It costs more.”
— Jim McKay, State Coordinator, Prevent Child Abuse West Virginia

Here’s what you can do TODAY:

✅ Call Governor Morrisey’s office at 304-558-2000. Tell them what these programs have meant to you or your family. Tell them Taylor County needs these contracts released now.

✅ Contact the Governor’s office online: https://governor.wv.gov/contact-us/office-governor

One paragraph. Your story. That is all it takes. Real stories from real people are what move the needle.

✅ Ask your legislators to keep pressing the Governor’s office to release FRN and FSC contracts immediately. They’ve done their part — now we need the Governor to do his.

✅ Share this post. The more voices the Governor hears from Taylor County, the better.

The clock is ticking. July 1 is weeks away.
Taylor County families are counting on us — and on you.

✨💙🌱 Every child deserves a safe, stable, nurturing environment.

Programs like Family Support Centers, child care assistance, clothing vouchers, and Legal Aid help make that possible.
They support families and create the stability children need to thrive.
