The City of Grafton, Illinois established a Veteran’s Commission in December 2022 with the mission to explore opportunities to honor our veterans. The vision of the Grafton War Memorial Commission is to oversee the creation of a first-class Veteran’s Memorial Complex, including a museum, that honors our veterans and increases public awareness of the United States Armed Forces. The Memorial will be

set against the limestone bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River. The centerpiece of this Memorial will be a life-sized WWII reproduction of the U. Army Rangers climbing the Pointe Du Hoc cliffs on Omaha Beach as part of the initial D-Day landings. The soldier is in WWII uniform, moving forward and holding an M1A1 Machine gun. He has one leg down which also forms the letter "I" of the word national, his other foot stands on a blue representing the crossing of the English Channel. The thin line of barbed wire and the steel X to his front represent the enemy obstacles he had to maneuver through to get to the beach. The cliffs in the background have ropes with soldiers climbing and bunkers on top representing the enemy positions. This is our registered logo for the NMMA.
