Hello neighbors and makers and growers! We see you. 👀

03/01/2026

"Full circle doesn’t mean going back. It means returning stronger.”

And so it does.. Here we are, March 1. My birth month!

I’ll soon be 43 and this year hits a little different.. Not in an “I feel old” way, but in a beautiful “my life has finally caught up with me” kind of way.

Things have come full circle — for me, for my baby, for my marriage, for my husband, for our whole family. We've walked through chaos, we survived all of the trials, and somehow we’re standing here again… right back where both my sweet Presley Sage and The Wright County Homestead were conceived.

Nearly three years later and we’re back on the same land with new scars, new lessons, and a new kind of strength. We didn’t break though, we grew through it. And now we get to thrive!

Welcome to a new chapter of life and resilience- Happy Birthday to ME!!

Coming to you from Podack, USA. And From my Front Door. 🌤️

I’ve had some downtime recently, so I've been reading up on the Ozarks and found a fun little fact that surprised me..

More specifically, I was digging into what makes Wright County's history especially unique and, in doing so, I stumbled across an incredible, little-known tidbit.

I'll admit, I went down a bit of a rabbit hole- 🕳️ buuut according to the U.S. Census Bureau, the actual mean center of the ENTIRE US population — the literal EXACT balance point of where every single American lives — landed right HERE in Wright County, Missouri in the 2020 Census. 🗺️📍

Not metaphorically. Not poetically. Absolutely literally.

If you placed every person in the country as a tiny weight on a giant map, the spot where the whole thing would balance is just outside Hartville… Just a short drive from Graff, our teeny-tiny little dot on the map!

📍 37.415725° N, 92.346525° W 📍

That means we’re not just “in the heart of America” as some cute saying — we are literally living in the actual center of our nation’s population! And also at a time when this position is the MOST southern and MOST western this center has ever been recorded in U.S. history. 🇺🇸

As of the 2020 census,
⚖️Half the U.S. population lives north of that point, half south.
⚖️Half lives east, half west.
⚖️Wright County is the literal center point of where Americans live.
⚖️Additionally, this is the most southern and western population center ever recorded in U.S. history.

I grew up loving nature and always finding MY balance within it, so to find out that the beauty I find in the place I live offers such a centering and grounding pull is magical to me!!!

And suddenly, everything about this place makes sense!

People gravitate to this area for many reasons and, whether you grew up here in God's Country or you have found your way here later in life, one thing is for certain. It's HOME.

The gently flowing creeks.. 🏞️
The beauty of the rolling hills. ⛰️
Those darn gravel roads- ALL OF IT. 🛻
The way people gather for their neighbors, help one another, or show up for strangers and hold them other up in their time of need? THAT is something truly special.

We’re living in the place where America balances itself naturally.
A place where the country’s weight settles and where the map finds its true center. 🇺🇸

And whether we’re out there hiking the trails, tearin' up the backroads, telling tales around the fire, bringing markets to life, or just breathing in the Ozarks air… We’re doing it right here in the center of the nation — in the exact place the whole country quietly leans toward.

Amazingly, I also previously lived in Plato, MO.. The most recent "former" center US from 2010.
📍 37.517534° N, -92.173096° W 📍

As an explorer, a historian, nature enthusiast, and lover of patterns and recurring themes, this is pretty cool to me.. But also such a gift, in terms of what it truly brings to me.

As we explore the very place that the US of A gravitates towards as "true center", we hope you'll come along and join us on our journey.

Welcome to Out ’n About in the Ozarks.
Welcome to the center of it all. ❤️🇺🇸💙

🍄🍄 MISSOURI MOREL HUNTING – 2026 SOIL TEMPERATURE REPORT🍄🍄

Good morning, Morel Maniacs!
It’s that time of year again… we’re officially firing up the 4" soil temperature reports for the 2026 Missouri morel season! 🌡️🌱

For those new to the page — morels typically begin fruiting once soil temperatures reach ideal growing conditions at 4 inches. From here on out, we’ll be tracking it closely across the state and watching the progression unfold week by week.

Let’s take a look at where things stand right now 👇

🌡️ CURRENT 4" SOIL TEMPERATURE SNAPSHOT

Northern Missouri: 22°–27°
Still very cold. Frost is holding strong and the ground has a long way to go.

Central Missouri: 31°–33°
We’re beginning to see some gradual warming, but we remain well below active fruiting conditions.

Southern Missouri: 33°–38°
The southern tier is leading the charge, with a few pockets reaching the upper 30s. This is where we’ll see the first real movement once spring locks in.

🍄 What This Means For The Season

Right now, Missouri is in the pre-warm phase. Soil is slowly coming to life, and the buildup is steady. Once southern counties push higher and central Missouri warms more consistently, the pace picks up — and it picks up fast.

🔥 Season Anticipation

You can feel it building now. 🌱
The woods are on the edge of waking up, and the soil is creeping toward those ideal temperatures. With warmer weather on the way later this week, things are about to heat up fast — and when Missouri turns the corner, it doesn’t ease in… it explodes. 🍄🔥

Boots by the door. Mesh bags ready. Honey holes on your mind.

Missouri… the season is almost here.🍀🍄🍀🍄

🌿 The incredible benefits of a bay leaf slipped into your socks
• Bay contains eugenol, a powerful natural anti-inflammatory. Placed near the heel, the leaf releases its soothing properties through the skin.
How to use it effectively:
1. Use clean, dry bay leaves.
2. Slip one or two leaves into your socks, near the heel.
3. Put the socks on and wear them at night or for a few hours during the day.
4. Repeat regularly to feel the benefits.
Why it works:
The eugenol, linalool, and cineole in bay act as natural pain relievers and soothe local inflammation. Other benefits:
• Antimicrobial properties
• Improves blood circulation
• Promotes restful sleep
• Relieves plantar, joint, and back pain
✨ A simple, natural, and economical method to improve daily comfort with bay leaves.

🌱Eating seasonally is a great way to support your health because you get the best, most nutritionally dense foods that way. So ... what's in season right now?

The hot season is hard on tender greens, so look for warm season veggies like 🌶️peppers and squash and🥕 carrots. These get to hide under big leafy plants or in the ground, so they tolerate the heat a little better. You can also enjoy ripening fruits like 🍉watermelon, 🍈cantaloupe, 🍎apples and 🍐pears!

The sweet potatoes and winter squash are just beginning to hit harvest time, so keep your eye out for those, too!

🧑‍🌾If you are planning a fall garden, get those starts and seeds ready! August is the time to start growing brassicas again - cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower & brussels sprouts. Green beans, Kale, and Chard and leafy greens also make great fall crops.
