Across our watershed there are wetlands, ephemeral streams, and unnamed tiny creeks that provide such immense environmental benefits. Don’t forget to treasure the soggy spots in your neck of the woods 💕

Thank you Julian Mazza (PA DCNR service forester) for being an amazing guide on our group hike to Choke Creek Falls this past Sunday! And THANK YOU to all of our hike attendees! We had a great time marveling at the beauty of our watershed, and learning a lot about the local trees and plants from Julian. Highlights included seeing painted trilliums and pink lady slippers (as we had hoped!) as well as learning how to identify different conifers and spotting some wild high bush blueberries! And of course, the falls were gorgeous. We do this event every spring and hope you'll all join us next year for this family friendly event!

⚠️ Heads up! ⚠️ Turtles (and snakes and salamanders!) are on the move in our watershed! This gorgeous wood turtle was found trying to cross a busy road from wetlands towards the Lehigh River. Wood turtles are a species of “special concern” in Pennsylvania so it’s always a treat to see one in person (and when appropriate, lend one a hand!). If you see a turtle roadside, gently pick them up like a hamburger (nope, not kidding) and move them across the road in the direction they were heading, giving them plenty of distance from the shoulder. Don’t relocate any turtles you find- they are very connected to their specific home range for food, brumation (similar to hibernation), mating, and nesting!

👀 Spotted in the watershed- painted trillium! We’re in awe of their bold colors and delicate petals. If you spot them- look, don’t touch! Some trillium can take up to seven (!!!) years to flower. We’re hoping to see some trillium on our guided hike to Choke Creek Falls on Sunday (see event details on our FB page or website!)- we hope you’ll join us!
