We are a charitable nonprofit organization that provides supplemental food assistance to qualifying clients in western Augusta County, eastern Bath and Rockbridge Counties of Virginia. We distribute USDA items as well as non USDA products. We adhere to the rules and regulations dictated by the US government related to the operation of food pantries. The Craigsville Area Food Pantry (CAFP), establi
shed in 2004, serves clients in western Augusta County, eastern Bath and Rockbridge Counties of Virginia. It is located in an old store at the intersection of Estaline Valley Road (Va 801) and Bashaw Road (Va 683) south of the town of Craigsville. We serve more than 220 families monthly with USDA and non-USDA products. We have 332 families on the active rolls of the pantry meaning that they have received food from the pantry at least once in the previous three months. As we have a large population of elderly and/or disabled people, we deliver monthly to 70 families. We are open for customers on the third Thursday of each month. Our hours are 10:00am -1:00pm and 5:30pm – 7:00 pm. We are an ALL volunteer organization. We have volunteers doing all kinds of work. Some check families in, making sure that all the paperwork is correct. Some unload the many truckloads of food we receive each week. Some pickup contributed food from area businesses. Some stock shelves in our store. Some pack the food for the families and others load those food stuffs into the family vehicles. Some deliver food to shut-ins and others that are without transportation to the pantry. Some do the reports that are necessary to keeping the pantry running according to regulations. We have all kinds of volunteers doing things behind the scene. All total we have had more than 50,000 volunteer-hours in our thirteen years of operation. For a small town operation that is a lot of volunteer help and without it we would have been out of business a long time ago. Many thanks to all who have donated their time and effort!
