What does it really mean to show up for kids who have experienced trauma, abandonment, and adversity?

In our newest episode of the Fostering Conversation podcast, we sit down with the incredible Peter Mutabazi (aka Peter Mutabazi Foster Dad), author of Love Does Not Conquer All.

From surviving the streets of Uganda as a child to becoming a single foster dad to over 40 children in the U.S., Peter’s life story is a masterclass in resilience, empathy, and hope.

In this powerful episode, we dive into:

💡 Why love alone isn't always enough—and what kids actually need (consistency, patience, and safety).

🏠 The profound impact of making sure every young person feels seen, heard, and known.

🤝 How everyone can play a role in supporting the foster care community, even if you aren't a foster parent yourself.

You do not want to miss this deeply moving and honest conversation.

If you look at my childhood photos, you won’t see the typical baby pictures or birthday parties. For me—and for so many kids in the system—the beginning of life is mostly a blank space.

By the time I was six, I had lived with eight different families. Eight different front doors. Every single photo I actually own doesn't just represent a memory; it represents a completely different house and a brand-new start. I spent my earliest years learning how to pack my life into a bag and relying on the sudden kindness of strangers.

Those years shaped me. They taught me resilience, but they also taught me a heartbreaking truth: stability shouldn't be a luxury. A child shouldn't have to be "resilient" just to survive.

I founded Welcome Home Youth Advocacy because I wanted to provide the exact bridge, resource, and stability I needed when I was bouncing between those eight homes.

My early chapters were complicated, but the kids currently in foster care are still writing theirs. Their stories aren't set in stone, and the support we give them today determines how their next chapter begins.

Whether you donate, advocate, or simply share this post, your voice can be the piece of consistency a child is praying for.

Let's change the narrative together. Visit welcomehomeyouth.org to see how you can show up for foster youth today.

There’s a powerful bridge between the month we’ve just finished and the one we’re beginning. As we move from National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April into National Foster Care Awareness Month this May, we’re reminded that every child’s story is woven into the strength of our community.

In this deeply moving episode of Fostering Conversation, we are honored to be joined by Rebecca Shetler Fast, the President and CEO of CAPS Elkhart.

We’re diving into the heart of the matter: How do we support families before a crisis happens? And how do we wrap our arms around the youth who are already navigating the foster care system? Rebecca brings such wisdom and passion to the undeniable link between our missions.

It’s a conversation about hope, resilience, and the heartfelt belief that no family should ever have to walk their path alone.
