Our family is up and roaming. Be Bear Aware!

Black bears are active. Are you being BearWise?

Here are just a few helpful tips to safely coexist with bears:

✅ NEVER feed bears, intentionally or accidentally.

✅ If you see a bear in your yard, do not approach it.

✅ Do not leave pet food outdoors or feed pets outside.

✅ If there is regular bear activity in your area, avoid putting out birdfeeders at any time of year.

✅ Store garbage in secure, airtight containers inside a garage or other enclosed storage area.

Last year saw the highest number of reported human-bear conflicts, affecting residents across 151 municipalities. Most of these conflicts involved birdseed and trash. These types of conflicts are also the easiest to prevent.

Goshen is the town above all others! Which means all water flows down from us. We have a responsibility to keep water clean for humans and wildlife. Springs in Goshen feed into the east and west branches of the Bantam river, which fills the lake. Take the pledge!

Want to make a difference in protecting our watershed? Join Litchfield Land Trust and other collaborating Bantam Watershed Coalition organizations and take the watershed protection pledge. These simple steps outline how each of us can do our part to help protect our streams, rivers, and lakes. Please share the pledge with your friends and neighbors.
