Transition Goshen

Transition Goshen collaborative initiatives for community resilience Many of these initiatives are registered on the Transition Network website.

A Transition Town is a place where there's a community-led process that helps that town/village/city/neighborhood become stronger and happier. It's happening in well over a thousand highly diverse communities across the world - from towns in Australia to neighborhoods in Portugal, from cities in Brazil to rural communities in Slovenia, from urban locations in Britain to islands off the coast of Ca

These communities have started up projects in areas of food, transport, energy, education, housing, waste, arts etc. as small-scale local responses to the global challenges of climate change, economic hardship and shrinking supplies of cheap energy. Together, these small-scale responses make up something much bigger, and help show the way forward for governments, business and the rest of us.

Nonviolent Communication Series with Amanda Blaine at AMBS

Marshall Rosenberg, founder of the nonviolent communication (NVC) movement, said, “Two things distinguish nonviolent actions from violent actions. First, you don’t see an enemy and second, your intention is not to make the other side suffer.”

**All events are open to anyone curious about NVC, and there is no cost to participate! **

When it comes to platforms on climate change, there's not much political ambiguity; the Democratic platform on climate issues is by far the strongest Americans have ever seen.
"But remember: election day is just one day in the political calendar. The other 364 count just as much.
Our job is not to elect a savior. Our job is to elect someone we can effectively pressure."
- Bill McKibben

We can't sit this election out. That's why we're organizing teams across the country to take action through the election -- and we need your help.

The Vibrant Communities initiative has engaged hundreds of you in a discussion on quality of place, and with your more than 3,500 ideas and comments, we’ve drafted a tailored action agenda to increase the vibrancy in all of our diverse communities.

Please bring your friends, your family and your community to attend the Summit on the Future, Tuesday, June 7, 2016 from 5:00pm-6:30pm, in the Lerner Theatre. We’ll be celebrating the work we’ve done so far, hearing from an expert in creative place making, reviewing the draft Action Agenda, and asking you to tell us where we should start!

The doors open at 4pm to the Crystal Ballroom where we’ll have the whole Action Agenda on display. They’ll stay open after the presentation in the theatre, so you’ll have plenty of time to tell us your thoughts. We’ll have music, refreshments, and all the makings for a great time.

'check out' a person/living book story teller for 15 minutes and hear their story in the library. This is based on the human library project practiced in some other places as a community building and breaking down of stereotypes.

Come meet your Goshen neighbors - as Living Books! On Tuesday April 12th, from 6:00-8:00 pm, patrons can "borrow" people from the Goshen Public Library instead of books and enjoy a unique story-telling experience. Some of the "titles" you'll be able to "check out" and "read" at the library that evening are: Fowl Encounters at Indiana Dunes, Trials & Triumphs of Wedding Cakes, Goshen: A Surprising History, and many more. Come "read up" on some wonderful Goshen people!

This Sunday, a group of local citizens are gathering to organize and launch the Goshen chapter of Citizens’ Climate Lobby. The group notes that “we need a national policy to put a price on carbon that will speed the transition to a clean-energy economy. The political will for such a policy is currently lacking. Therefore, it is time for citizens to reclaim their democracy and overcome the powerful influence of the fossil fuel industry."
