Did you know that most, if not all, dogs who come in through rescue and shelters have parasites? Even if babies are born inside, they can get parasites through fleas, flies and even their own mother.
NOTE in advance, don't look at the photos if you're eating or get queasy from this sort of thing!
At Blue Ridge Animal Rescue and Sanctuary we have parasite protocol that includes a worming routine for as long as the pet is in our program!
Both internal and external parasites have the ability to strip the animal of nutrients and cause the immune system to be vulnerable giving disease a chance to creep in!
We were contacted by a previous owner surrender who needed our help again. They had TWO different litters of puppies to surrender. They were picked up at different times but we have them both and they are in their quarantine period. This includes worming, helping them switch over from nursing puppies to more solid nutrition and vaccination once parasites are eliminated!
We're showing you an example from these two litters of heavy loads of parasites. The solid stool photo shows what is called tapeworm, and you can see what we call "spaghetti worms" (yes, you'll never look at spaghetti the same way again π€£ ) or roundworms. The 5" roundworms came out of ONE Chihuahua mix puppy who itself is no longer than 10 inches from tip of nose to tip of stretched out tail. The puppies only weigh 2 pounds!! Roundworms are exiting after day one and day two of the Fenbendazole three day protocol. Day three is tomorrow.
Our first litter is almost finished with their quarantine and are the sweetest babies!!!! ππ Our friends at the Humane Society of Oldham County are helping us out and taking litter #1! There are 7 of them! They will be small breed (probably under 30 pounds) and are heading to HSOC on Monday!!!
The second litter is in the beginning of their quarantine.
And..... the best thing to come out of this encounter is that Blue Ridge Animal Rescue and Sanctuary is paying for THREE females on this property to be spayed and vaccinated! No more unwanted pets on this property! π
