Stephen Ward 911 Memorial 5K Annual fundraiser for the Stephen G. Steve was a graduate of Gorham High School and the University of Maine. He was bright, funny, vibrant, and caring.

Ward Memorial Scholarship Fund, awarded each year in the name of Steve Ward of Gorham, ME, who lost his life in the attacks on America on September 11th, 2001. We are a scholarship fund in the name of Stephen Ward of Gorham, Maine, who lost his life in the attacks on America on September 11th, 2001. He held a Masters Degree in accounting with a concentration in financial planning and worked as a CPA for Cantor Fitzgerald on the 101st floor of the North tower of the World Trade Center. His loss still resonates for those who knew and loved him (because, really, to know him WAS to love him). He was a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, and friend who was connected to his world in so many ways and who will be missed by so many people. In an effort to bring some good out of the tragedy of September 11th, Stephen's family and friends established the Stephen G. Ward Memorial Scholarship Fund. Currently, the fund contributes each year to the post secondary education of a student at Gorham High School. We will gather each year on or near the anniversary of the attacks on America, for the 9/11 Memorial 5K Run/Walk and Kids' Fun Run. We will run and walk this 3.1 mile road certified course in Gorham in Steve's memory and to honor all those lost on that tragic day. There will be a kids fun run, family festivities, good food and good friends. Please join us. Run, contribute, volunteer, or sponsor the race. Every bit of help will bring us a little closer to our goal of helping Maine's brightest get to college. Register at: www.running4free.com WILL you NEVER FORGET?

🩵 OUR VOLUNTEERS: THE HEART & SOUL OF OUR 5K! 🩵
An event like this doesn't just happen—it is powered entirely by incredible individuals who give up their time, energy, and smiles. We could not do this without you!!
We want to give a special spotlight to a few of the legendary pillars who keep our event running year after year:

• Bruce Hepler: A true friend, teammate of Steve's, and honorary big brother whose presence wraps around us like a warm hug. Bruce honors Steve beautifully every year by presenting the Stephen G. Ward Memorial Scholarship at the GHS Awards night, capturing the heart of why we do this. On top of that, he has pulled double-duty for all 16 years—volunteering at the registration table before running the course himself! 🙏🏼🕊

• Lisa & Dan Randall: My amazing cousins have spent 16 straight years coordinating donations, setting up, and manning the post-race refreshments and the mile 2 water stop! 🍎💧

• FF/AEMT Wendell Howard: GHS class of 1992, started his career as a volunteer Gorham Fire Fighter, and is responsible for the incredibly moving firefighter and first responder presence at our event. From hoisting the giant American Flag over the start and finish lines, to completing the entire 5k course in full turn-out gear alongside his fellow first responders —Wendell ensures our community deeply remembers and honors all that was lost on that tragic day. 🚒🇺🇸

• Coach Jason Tanguay & the Gorham High School Cross Country Team: Thank you for bringing your incredible squad out for so many years to keep our course safe and our energy high! 🏃🏼‍♂️🏃‍♂️

• Lisa Foster: My kids’ wonderful former daycare provider who returns year after year to support us and give back to the community!🙋🏻‍♀️🌟

THANK YOU ALL, from the bottom of my heart, for showing up, year after year, giving your time and energy to make this event successful, and so incredibly special. ❤️🤍💙
