Southern Maine RC Helicopter Association

Southern Maine RC Helicopter Association We’re a group of R/C helicopter pilots in Southern Maine. We have a dedicated flying field in Gorh Our members range in age from early teens to seniors.

We all have a passion for the hobby and love to see new faces. Spectators are always welcome. Wednesday nights and Sunday afternoons are the best chances to see some action! We fly everything from helis and quads that fit into the palm of your hand, to 800-sized helicopters with 5½ foot rotors that travel over 80MPH!

Happy Spring! After closing the flying field in August of 21, we are back flying!
Southern Maine RC Helicopter Association is getting the club back together as there has been some renewed interest in R/C Helicopters.
We'll be flying at our home field in Gorham.
Stay tuned for further developments.
Fly Safe!

The officers of our club met this weekend and made the difficult decision to close the club.
After 25 years of Helicopter flying and instruction to new pilots we are finding memberships dropping.
With all the work and expense of maintaining a flying site, the drop in members makes it unsustainable.
Many thanks to Burt Dumond who for 25 years has been the driving force behind our club, and tirelessly promoted the club and model helicopters .
Bert always made time to help new pilots and some of us old pilots also.
We also want to thank Wayne Libby and David Elliott
For their help with running the club and maintaining the flying site.
We've had a lot of fun over the years and have made many new friends.
We will keep our standings with AMA and if we see more interest in Helicopters ,we will revisit flying together as a club again.
Thank you to everyone who worked and flew with us over the years, hope to see you in the air.
Thanks to all
Chris

Happy Spring!
The flying season is here and I'm sure we're all ready to get out there.
We haven't officially opened the field yet but I
Sure it will be soon.
Just a reminder that a good preflight check after a long winter is always a good thing.
We all want our first flights of the year to be successful and safe.
We'll be posting soon when the field opens and look forward to a fun and safe flying season.
See you at the field
Chris

A few of us met at the field tonight and had some great flights. It was a beautiful night and a little windy but very manageable.
Safe to say we burned some nitro and had a good time.
The site looks great, many thanks to Dave, Wayne and everyone who pitched in to get it setup .
Wednesday nights are our trainer night and we always look forward to meeting and helping new pilots so stop by and check out our club.
Hope to see you all on Wednesday nights.
As always Fly Safe.

Per Burt's recent comment:

It's official, the field is open. Please be aware of the vehicles near the lower runway and stay well away from them. Most of them will be gone in the next month.
