Today is World Health Day — a reminder that health is not one-size-fits-all.

For the 1 in 26 people who will be diagnosed with epilepsy in their lifetime, health includes understanding seizures, access to the right care, and a community that knows how to respond with confidence and compassion.

Epilepsy is more than seizures — it can impact mental health, independence, education, and daily life. That’s why awareness, education, and advocacy matter.

This World Health Day, let’s commit to:
💜 Learning seizure recognition first aid
💜 Supporting those living with epilepsy
💜 Breaking the stigma through understanding

Together, we can build a healthier, more inclusive world for everyone.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Patient Support Group (Ages 14+)
🗓 April 21 | ⏰ 7:00 PM
A welcoming environment to connect with others living with epilepsy, build confidence, and access reliable information.

Help Shape a New Seizure Alerting Device

DDF is excited to share that an epilepsy technology company is developing a new EEG-based seizure alerting system designed specifically for continuous use during sleep at home by people living with epilepsy.
This digital health company is modernizing brain health solutions to improve seizure monitoring and detection. They want to learn directly our Danny Did community, to better understand your experiences and what features would matter most in a sleep seizure alerting system. Your insights will directly help shape the design and development of this device.
Who? People living with seizures of any type or caregivers are invited to this study.
What’s involved:
• A 1:1 or small group virtual interview (~45 minutes)
• Questions about your experience and needs.
• Compensation provided in the form of an eVisa gift card

Your voice can help ensure this technology is built with families in our community — not just for them.

Today, on Physician’s Day, we take a moment to recognize and thank the dedicated providers who stand beside individuals living with epilepsy every single day.

Epilepsy is more than a diagnosis—it’s a journey filled with uncertainty, resilience, and hope. Physicians play a critical role in that journey, helping patients navigate complex treatment options, manage seizures, create Seizure Action Plans (SAPs), and improve quality of life. Their expertise, compassion, and commitment make a lasting difference not only for patients, but for families and caregivers as well.

To the neurologists, epileptologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, primary care providers, and all healthcare professionals who support the epilepsy community—thank you for listening, advocating, researching, and never giving up on better outcomes.
Your work matters. Your care changes lives.

🎭✨ World Theatre Day & Epilepsy Awareness ✨🎭

Today, on World Theatre Day, we celebrate the power of storytelling—the way a stage can bring unseen experiences to life and foster understanding.
For those living with epilepsy, every day can feel unpredictable, like stepping into the unknown without a script. But just like in theatre, strength, resilience, and support can transform even the most challenging moments into stories of courage.

* Imagine navigating bright lights, loud sounds, and long rehearsals while managing seizures.
* Imagine being misunderstood because others don’t see what’s happening behind the scenes.
That’s why awareness matters.

Let’s use today as a reminder to:
👏 Learn seizure first aid
👏 Support inclusive spaces in the arts and beyond
👏 Amplify the voices of those living with epilepsy
Because everyone deserves a standing ovation—not just for the roles they play, but for the battles they overcome daily.

🐾💜 Happy National Puppy Day! 💜🐾

Today, March 23, we’re celebrating some very special puppies… the ones who grow up to become life-changing companions for people living with epilepsy.

These incredible dogs aren’t just pets—they become highly trained service animals that provide safety, independence, and peace of mind.

✨ How service dogs can assist people with epilepsy:
• Alerting to seizures before they happen (in some cases)
• Staying with their person during a seizure to provide comfort and protection
• Activating medical alert systems or seeking help
• Positioning themselves to prevent injury
• Providing deep pressure therapy to help with recovery
• Offering constant companionship, reducing anxiety and isolation

🐶 But becoming a service dog doesn’t happen overnight. It starts with puppies who are carefully selected for temperament, then raised and trained for 1–2 years to learn specialized skills tailored to their future handler’s needs.

💡 How do you get an epilepsy service dog?
The process typically includes:
• Completing a detailed application
• Providing medical documentation
• Participating in interviews and home assessments
• Being matched with a dog based on lifestyle and needs
• Completing handler training to build a strong working partnership

There may also be waitlists and fundraising involved, as training a service dog can cost tens of thousands of dollars.

🤝 Organizations that help provide epilepsy service dogs:
• Canine Assistants
• 4 Paws for Ability
• Paws With A Cause
• Service Dogs Inc.
• Little Angels Service Dogs

📸 The photos featured here are of S.A.F.E. member, Scarlett Stevenson, and her two incredible alert dogs, Roxie and Onyx—real-life heroes who provide daily support, safety, and companionship. After experiencing seizures in 2024, Scarlett became legally blind, creating a need for both a service dog to assist with her vision and a seizure alert dog for added safety.
Scarlett is working tirelessly to raise awareness about the importance of companion and alert dogs, how to obtain one, and what daily life looks like with two incredible service animals by her side. We are so very proud of Scarlett and her efforts to advocate, educate and inspire others dealing with an epilepsy diagnosis.

💜 On this Puppy Day, we honor the journey from playful pup to lifesaving partner—and the incredible impact these dogs have on the epilepsy community.
