Pope Leo's call to action is exactly what everyone needs right now. Compassionate people who help their neighbors without being asked. You become a true blessing to that person in the same way that they are for you.
We at ESNA are fortunate that everyone who travels with us to El Salvador does more than just talk! We are able to work and walk alongside the people of El Salvador because all of our donors are taking action. As stated in the wise and uplifting words of Pope Leo:
"Stretch your hand. Interrupt your comfort. Give beyond convenience. Show up when it is not easy. See, at the end of the day, heaven will not reward us for how well we spoke about love, but for how deeply we lived it.
We have mastered the art of reacting without responding. We send messages, emojis, and voice notes, yet avoid physical presence, financial sacrifice, and personal inconvenience. People do not just need your sympathy; they need your substance. They need your time, your strength, your resources, YOUR PRESENCE.
A hungry man does not need a sermon on faith; he needs food. A broken heart does not only need a quote; it needs companionship. A struggling soul does not just need “God will help you”; sometimes, you are the help God wants to send. If Christ had practiced audio Christianity, there would be no Cross, no redemption, no salvation. Love nailed him to action. Compassion moved him to sacrifice. And if we claim to follow him, then we must resemble him, not just in what we say, but in what we do".
