Behind Every Mission Is a Dedicated Team!

Today, we held our monthly staff meeting at Gervonni Cares, Inc., and we finally captured something we've been wanting for a while — a TEAM PHOTO! 📸

We're missing two important members of our GCI family, Ameze, our other Certified Community Legal Advocate (CCLA), and Alexus, our Social Work Volunteer, but they are definitely part of this picture in spirit!

Our monthly meetings are more than just updates. They're an opportunity to learn, grow, strengthen our communication, and ensure that everyone understands the programs and services we provide to our community.

From eviction prevention and housing stability to food insecurity, workforce development, financial education, and youth empowerment, every person on our team plays a role in helping families move toward stability and sustainability.

The work isn't always easy. The needs continue to grow. But having a team that understands the mission makes all the difference.

I'm grateful for every staff member and volunteer who contributes their time, talents, and dedication to Gervonni Cares.

At Gervonni Cares, families may walk through our doors for food pantry assistance and leave connected to housing stability support, workforce development services, and other resources that help them move forward.

We also thannk Valley of the Sun United Way for creating opportunities for us to share our services and the stories behind our work. Your grant support helps us prevent homelessness and provide wraparound services that address the needs of the whole family.

🍧🎓 Small business lessons. Big life skills. A summer worth celebrating!

Today, our Gervonni Cares Summertime Sno youth, ages 9–15, graduated at our Summer of Gratitude Luncheon at Chicken N Pickle - Glendale! We celebrated their hard work with a meal, awards, and cash earned through their summer hours.

These young people spent summer weekends selling sno cones at Chicken N Pickle while learning cash handling, customer service, budgeting, savings, and teamwork. In a world where we swipe and tap so often, counting money and understanding what we have available are valuable skills to keep!

Our highest earner this year earned $224, with participants able to earn up to $250 through the program. 👏🏽

We wrapped up the festivities at Tanger Outlets, where learning continued! Using Monopoly money to represent their available spending funds, participants selected purchases and counted out their payment before a staff member paid for the items. They practiced rounding, making choices within a budget, and tracking what remained. Remaining balances under $10 were paid out in cash.

Every sno cone sold and every dollar counted helped build confidence, responsibility, and independence. We are so proud of our graduates—and grateful to Chicken N Pickle, our families, and everyone who supported their growth!
