Elevated Fire Weather Conditions - Polk County
This message is from the Polk County Office of Emergency Management. The Texas A&M Forest Service advises that high winds and low humidity associated with an incoming cold front are expected Friday, October 16th through Monday, October 19th creating conditions that can allow fires to start easily and spread rapidly.

Outdoor burning is not recommended during this time.

Please take extra precautions. Avoid outdoor burning and debris burning, do not toss ci******es from vehicles, avoid parking on dry grass, use caution with equipment that can create sparks, and secure trailer chains that could drag and spark.

Please use caution, as dry and windy conditions can increase the risk of fires starting and spreading.

Prayers…

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with REACH Air Medical Services, their families and all those affected by a recent tragic helicopter accident.

In the air medical community, we are more than separate crews—we are a family united by a shared mission to serve. When one of us experiences a loss, we all feel the impact.

As our colleagues navigate this incredibly difficult time, we stand in solidarity with them and the entire community. We are keeping everyone affected in our thoughts.

Our thoughts are prayers are with his department and especially his family.

It is with heavy hearts that the members of the Shepherd VFD announce the untimely passing of one of our firefighters, Samuel Pate. Sam joined the Shepherd VFD as a Junior member while still in High School. He then transitioned into the Shepherd VFD as a senior member 2 days after his 18th birthday.
During his tenure with Shepherd VFD, Sam held the positions of Junior Firefighter, Firefighter, Lieutenant and Second Assistant Chief. This is quite an accomplishment for such a young man.
Sam was an invaluable member and put countless hours into training for, and responding to, emergency calls. Outside of the department he enjoyed hunting, fishing and anything outdoors. Sam loved his family, you could see it everything he did.
Sam was more than our friend, he was our brother. Sam will be missed not only here at the Department, but also in our everyday lives. Our thoughts and prayers go to his family, wife and young child, they have shared Sam with us for 10 years.

R.I.P.
Samuel Pate

We love participating in this for all the children but we could use some help with providing all the needed candy. If you would like to help, we need individually wrapped candy in unopened bags. You can drop your candy by Gokey’s Old Town Emporium during their business hours or message us through Facebook to arrange for pickup of the candy. Thank you for helping us serve our community.
