For the 2025 deer season, changes were made to the boundaries of the deer management units (DMUs) in the Northern and Central Forest zones. Minor changes were also made to metropolitan sub-unit boundaries. The Farmland Zone units were not reviewed, but a few of the boundaries were modified because of other changes made to the forest zones.

DMUs in both Northern and Central Forest zones are labeled with a number (as opposed to a county name), and the Farmland Zone DMUs will still be denoted by their county names.

Hunters will need to know their management zone and DMU number/county when purchasing an authorization/license or registering their deer in their Go Wild account.

📣NRB Approves 2026 Deer Season Quotas And Framework🦌

MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced that on June 24, 2026, the Wisconsin Natural Resources Board (NRB) approved the deer harvest quotas and framework for the 2026 Wisconsin deer hunting season.

Beginning Aug. 17, 272,720 total bonus antlerless harvest authorizations will be available for purchase across the state. These authorizations are in addition to the free antlerless harvest authorizations issued in farmland zones, which are not reflected in this total.

These recommendations were formed in partnership with Citizen Deer Advisory Councils (CDACs) and based on public feedback and deer population objectives.

Antlerless harvest opportunities will vary between deer management units (DMUs) based on local deer population levels and management goals. This approach allows for greater harvest opportunities in zones where deer are abundant and more conservative harvests where deer are fewer in number.

For the 2026 season, bonus antlerless harvest authorizations will be available for purchase in all deer management units except DMU 116, as recommended by that DMU's CDAC.

Hunters may purchase additional bonus antlerless harvest authorizations online through the Go Wild license portal and at license sales locations starting at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 17. The first three days of bonus sales are management zone-specific, with all remaining permits becoming available on Thursday, Aug. 20.

A new loon buoy was placed this morning between Lake 1 and Lake 2. This area is now designated as a NO WAKE ZONE to help protect a loon nest and its eggs.

Please be mindful when traveling through this area and give the nesting loons the space they need.

🎣 The trout pond at Sportsman’s Lagoon has been stocked!

Looks like it’s finally time to get the rods ready, round up the kids and grandkids, and head down to the water. There’s not much better than an Up North evening spent fishin’ at the lagoon. 🌲🐟

📣 The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has announced several key changes for the 2026–2027 fishing season, which officially opens for general inland fishing on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

🌟 Major Rule Changes
The most significant updates for this season include shifts in traditional season structures and specific harvest limits:

Unified Musky Opener: There is no longer a separate "Northern" and "Southern" zone opener for muskellunge. The Musky harvest season now opens statewide on May 2.

🎣 New Trout Season Dates:
Inland streams, springs, and spring ponds: The season opened early on April 4, 2026.

Inland lakes and ponds: The season opens on May 2, 2026 at 5 a.m..

Panfish Experiment Conclusion: A decade-long experimental panfish regulation has concluded, leading to updated limits on nearly 100 lakes. For example, some waters previously allowing a 25-fish limit have transitioned to a 10-fish daily bag limit.

Walleye Bag Limits: Anglers are reminded of the statewide daily bag limit of three walleye on most inland waters, a change that took effect recently to support population rehabilitation.
