Let me introduce you to Miss Ruby Nelson, who spearheaded the Author's Corral, now our Miss Ruby's Corral at Christmas in Goliad.
Nelson attended the annual Author's Corral every year until she died in 1997. She always brought molasses cookies and enthusiasm to the festivities, says Myra Heard. Heard also, elaborates, "these cookies were killer molasses cookies!"
Now the event, which begins Saturday at 9:30 a.m. on the downtown square in 122 N. Courthouse Square and is named Miss Ruby's Corral.
According to Tommy Tijerina, a long-time friend of Nelson's, "She just loved kids, and wanted them to enjoy every minute they had available to them by reading,"
She grew up in Gillett, but while in Goliad, Nelson participated in several community organizations, such as the Little League and the County Historical Commission.
"She was very, very active in many, many things in Goliad," Heard said.
So, on Saturday, December 2, be sure and head to Miss Ruby's Corral, where you can purchase signed books and talk to the authors. It ends at 4 p.m., so be prompt.
