The Goliad County Retired School Personnel recently presented scholarships to two Goliad High School Seniors who plan to enter an educational field. Presenting the scholarships was Jerry Dornak, (L), President of the organization. Receiving the scholarships were (L_R) Hayden Luco and Jamey-James Flores. Each scholarship was worth $1000.

Sharon Howard, Goliad Elementary Librarian, center, accepts 302 children's books from members of the Goliad County Retired School Personnel. They will be distributed to various students in the county. Representing the GCRSP are (l-r) Dorothy Foerster, Yvonne Meharg, Howard, Gerald Foerster, and Jerry Dornak. The GCRSP also sent 204 books to United Way in Victoria. Thanks to GCRSP members and Square Gallery in Goliad for donating these books.

District 3 of the Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA) recently held their Fall Conference in Bay City. Approximately 70 members were in attendance from eleven different chapters. Joni Barber, District President from Beeville, presided. Theresa Martin from Edna was installed as the new First Vice President. State Secretary-Treasurer spoke to the group. Members also heard an update from TRS from Merita Zoga. Daryl Lau, District Treasurer from Goliad, presented the Treasurer's Report and Budget information. Jerry Dornak, Second Vice-President from Goliad, spoke to the Local 2nd Vice-Presidents and other members about proper procedures for communicating group information via newspapers and social media. He also discussed the State Children's Book Project and timelines for turning in their local numbers. Becky Williams, Legislative Chairman from Beeville, gave an update on what's happening in Austin. Robin Metting, Past President from Victoria, gave the Foundation update and information, and Theresa Martin discussed membership. She said the state now has 89,104 members and is trying to reach 100,000 this year.
A solemn memorial program for members that have passed away during the past year was held, with each chapter participating. Information on the Wear Red Day at the Capitol on March 26 was presented by Robin Metting. A bus trip is being planned for that day. After thanking Matagorda County for hosting and handing out door prizes, the meeting was adjourned.

Daryl Lau, left, Treasurer of the Goliad Co. Retired School Personnel, presents a check for a sponsorship of the Goliad Middle School Fall Festival to Amanda Torres, event coordinator. Jerry Dornak, President, looks on. Money raised at the Festival will be used by the school fund for student incentives, trips, teacher needs, and other discretionary needs that occur.
