Update from Dr Sandy about screw worms:
She said they were still holding them at bay for now. They are still dropping sterile flies up and down the river, hopefully it will hold them at bay for awhile, but she feels it's inevitable something will happen in the future. This is not to scare anyone but everyone needs to start being vigilant and start paying attention to your cattle. Know what you are looking for. We will be staying in touch with her. We have been through this before and we will get through it again. Everyone just needs to keep a level head.

Here is an updated map on screw worm cases in Mexico. Currently none located in the US.

Update from Dr. Sandy:
All is still good catching sterile flies in traps so this means they are releasing flies. A Regional supervisor for the lower Rio Grande says the same thing. Sounds like good news. Will continue to update.

On January 30, 2026, the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) announced a shift in New World screwworm (NWS) sterile fly dispersal efforts into Texas. To stop the northern spread of NWS, the new dispersal area, or polygon, will include operations about 50 miles into Texas, along the U.S. border with the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico. NWS have not been detected in Texas, but South Texans may see preventative sterile fly deployments in their area.

Ok some of you may be getting a report on FB by KHOU 11 news out of Houston. They are sounding the alarm that the screw worms are headed towards our border. Contact has been made with Dr. Sandy, yes we are concerned and watching closely.
There are currently 3 cases in Tamaulipas closest one is 197 miles away. Communication with USDA is minimal. Weekly contacts with Dr. Sandy will start back up. Keep your heads screwed on straight don't panic. There will be monitoring as closely as possible and keep you informed.
