On this Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the first peoples of this region, the Chumash. May we listen deeply, act respectfully, and walk together toward reconciliation, justice, and shared care for the earth.

Today, we honor Violet Sage Walker,  Chairwoman of the Northern Chumash Tribal Council and nominator of the Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary, which is now the 17th national marine sanctuary and one of the largest in the National Marine Sancturary System.

Violet carries forward the legacy of the Northern Chumash Tribal Council, protecting the natural and cultural heritage of the Chumash people. A community leader, artisan, and environmental advocate, Violet’s work embodies deep care for this land and sea, and the generations who will inherit them.

Her leadership reminds us that stewardship is not just about conservation, but about connection, truth, and belonging.

To wrap up our Insects and Invertebrates STEM curriculum, we had a special guest visit from Schlinger Chair and Curator of Entomology Alex Harman, Ph.D. from the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History! Dr. Harman shared fascinating insights about careers in entomology, gave us a fun review of insect anatomy, and brought in boxes of real insect specimens for us to observe up close. The girls loved learning from an expert and seeing the incredible diversity of bugs firsthand!

ASPIRE 2025: 400+ leaders. 75 affiliates. 1 mission.

This month, we came together at ASPIRE, the annual Girls Inc. conference, for powerful learning, bold conversations, and big ideas and dreams to expand our impact, strengthen our communities, and support the incredible girls we serve.

We drew inspiration from dynamic speakers and experts, saw the Indiana Fever crush it in the championship, connected with our sister affiliates across the US and Canada, and had the best time exploring the incredible center at

We came home with renewed purpose: every challenge is an opportunity to innovate, to lead with courage, and to ensure every girl knows her power.
