Rescuers Without Borders stands for dogs in need of help regardless of their geographical location. We call them "The Underdogs".

501 (c)(3) Non Profit. We passionately care about animal welfare locally, Nationally and Globally. We save many dogs who would face euthanasia, or death as as a stray. These dogs face many medical challenges such as paralysis, cancer, behavioral

and all the way to hospice dogs. From young to old, able-bodied and healthy to paralyzed.... we save them all! Here at RWB we believe that every life is worth saving and that our reach of help and our voice of help has no limitations. In fact, we believe and encourage the opposite; that anyone can help because our reach is limitless. We strive to make a difference in the lives of animals not just here in the United States, but the world. We feel it is our duty to speak for those who have no voice and to nurture, care and provided them with the homes they deserve. Our mission is ongoing and although it is a big mission, we know that with the help we can provide them that we will make a difference. Happy Friday! Over the past several days, we have introduced the branches of The Ferryman Project and the animals they exist to serve.

Today, we introduce the branch that makes all the others possible.

🕯️ Welcome to THE LANTERN KEEPERS

For years, people have thanked us for saving dogs.The truth is, we have never done it alone.

Behind every rescue is someone who donated. Behind every hospice dog is someone who cared. Behind every surgery is someone who gave.

Behind every wheelchair, every warm bed, every meal, every medication, every second chance, and every peaceful goodbye...there is a person whose kindness helped make it possible.

Those people are The Lantern Keepers.

The Lantern Keepers are the heartbeat behind The Ferryman Project.

They are the people who choose to stand beside the forgotten when the work becomes difficult, emotional, expensive, and unseen.

Like lanterns guiding travelers safely through darkness, they help light the way for animals who have known abandonment, suffering, neglect, fear, and uncertainty.

Many of the animals who come into our care arrive believing the world has forgotten them.

The Lantern Keepers help prove them wrong.

Every donation.

Every fundraiser.

Every shared post.

Every care package.

Every volunteer hour.

Every word of encouragement.

Every act of compassion.

Becomes part of an animal's story. The Lantern Keepers are more than donors. They are more than supporters. They are part of the crossing itself. They are the reason hope continues to exist when circumstances say it shouldn't. They are the reason a hospice dog receives comfort.

The reason a paralyzed dog receives a wheelchair. The reason an emergency surgery happens. The reason advocacy continues. The reason rescue remains possible.

And perhaps most importantly, they are a reminder that compassion still exists in this world.

The Ferryman Project was never meant to be carried by one person. It was always meant to be carried by a community of people willing to hold a light for those who need it most.

Me: On my way to start the next dog rotation when I walk by Sophia's room and have to do a double take...

Sophia: 🍹🛋️ "Wasting away again in Margaritaville, searching for my lost shaker of salt..."

Meanwhile, I'm trying to remember what rotation I'm on, how many loads of laundry I've done, and whether I've eaten today.

Sophia appears to have chosen a different management style. 😂🐾🍹well played Sophia, well played!

As we continue introducing the branches of The Ferryman Project, today we're shining a light on the branch dedicated to addressing the root causes of suffering, not just the aftermath. Welcome to The Watchtower.

⚖️ THE WATCHTOWER
Every day, rescue organizations across the country work tirelessly to save animals already caught in crisis.

The abandoned. The abused. The neglected. The dumped. The forgotten.
But eventually, we are forced to ask a difficult question:Why are there so many animals needing rescue in the first place?
Because rescue alone cannot solve a crisis that continues to create more victims every day.

That is why The Watchtower exists.
The Watchtower was created to shine a light on the realities too many people would rather ignore.

The overcrowded shelters.
The exploding street populations.
The irresponsible breeding.
The abandonment.
The neglect.
The lack of accountability.
The growing burden being placed on rescues, fosters, and communities already stretched beyond their limits.

While rescue saves lives one animal at a time, lasting change only happens when we confront the root causes of suffering.

The Watchtower stands as both witness and warning.We believe compassion and accountability must exist together.
Because compassion without accountability only manages the aftermath.

Through public awareness, education, advocacy, community engagement, and legislative efforts, The Watchtower works to expose the realities behind the animal welfare crisis and encourage meaningful change.

We are here to ask difficult questions.
To challenge harmful practices. To elevate solutions. And to ensure that the animals who cannot speak for themselves still have a voice.

Because the goal is not simply to rescue more animals.The goal is to build a future where fewer animals need rescuing in the first place.

Tomorrow marks the start of the IFilm Heroes The Creator Of Not Enough Of Us podcast.

We had the pleasure of meeting Cristian and Heather tonight ahead of the show, and after spending some time talking with Cristian, one thing became very clear—he wants to tell the entire story behind the rescue world.

That means celebrating the victories, honoring the dogs, and also asking some of the hard, straightforward questions that many people don't talk about.

As always, we will do our very best to be advocates not only for the dogs of Texas, but for dogs everywhere. The good, the bad, the heartbreaking, and the hopeful—we believe their stories deserve to be told.

Happy Tuesday! As we continue introducing the branches of The Ferryman Project, today we're shining a light on the place where so many journeys begin.

🏥 Welcome to the Safe Harbor Fund.

Some emergencies cannot wait until tomorrow. The dog lying injured on the side of the road cannot wait.The puppy abandoned in a ditch cannot wait.The starving dog wandering the streets cannot wait.The abuse victim cannot wait.The medical emergency cannot wait.

Yet every day, rescuers are forced to make impossible decisions because resources are limited and needs are endless.

That is why the Safe Harbor Fund exists.

The Safe Harbor Fund is the emergency response arm of The Ferryman Project. It was created for the abandoned, injured, abused, starving, dumped, and medically critical animals whose lives hang in the balance.

These are the calls that come without warning.

The dogs found in fields.The animals discarded in landfills.The seniors abandoned when their medical care became too expensive.The shelter dogs running out of time.The ones whose future depends on whether someone is willing and able to act immediately.

The reality of rescue is that emergencies do not arrive on a schedule. Life-saving decisions are often made in minutes.

The Safe Harbor Fund exists so that when those moments come, we can focus on the animal instead of the financial obstacle standing in the way.

Through the Safe Harbor Fund, we provide emergency veterinary care, surgeries, diagnostics, transportation, medical boarding, rehabilitation, nutritional support, and crisis intervention.

But beyond the medical care, Safe Harbor represents something even more important.

Hope.

Because for many of these animals, rescue is the first act of kindness they have ever known. We cannot save every animal in need.But we can fight for every opportunity to change the outcome for one more life.

Happy Monday! As we continue unveiling the branches of The Ferryman Project, today we're shining a light on a group of dogs who prove every day that strength isn't measured by four working legs. Welcome to The Anchored Souls Program. 🦽❤️

🦽 The Anchored Souls Program

Some of the strongest souls I have ever met cannot walk. Some move on wheels. Some drag themselves forward. Some have neurological challenges. Some have bodies that no longer work the way they should.
Yet somehow, they still wake up every day ready to love! ❤️

The Anchored Souls Program was created for the dogs the world often overlooks because their care is considered "too much," "too expensive," or "too difficult."

The paralyzed. The disabled. The mobility impaired. The neurological cases. The special-needs dogs. The ones so often labeled unadoptable. What the world sees as broken, we see as extraordinary.

Because disability does not diminish worth.
A wheelchair does not diminish worth.
A diagnosis does not diminish worth.
A dog who moves differently is not worth less love, less safety, less dignity, or less life.

For years, these dogs have been at the heart of everything we do. We have watched dogs written off as hopeless learn to race across the yard on wheels. We have watched paraplegic dogs not only learn to walk again, but run!

We have watched dogs abandoned because their care became inconvenient, learn to trust again. We have watched dogs who were discarded discover joy, friendship, adventure, and belonging.

The Anchored Souls Program exists because every life still has value, even when it requires extra care.

Especially then.
These dogs do not need pity.
They need opportunity.
They need support.

They need someone willing to stand beside them and say:
"You are not a burden."
"You are not forgotten."
"You belong here."

And that is exactly what we intend to do.

The More You Know......

Brain imaging studies, including fMRI research on awake dogs, have shown that dogs process emotions, rewards, fear, and social relationships using many of the same brain structures that humans do. Scientists have observed activity in areas associated with fear, attachment, reward, and decision-making when dogs experience different situations.

The science increasingly points toward dogs being sentient beings—capable of feeling fear, joy, grief, attachment, anxiety, anticipation, and even forms of empathy. Yet legally, in most places, they're still classified as property.

If someone's television is stolen, it's property loss.

If someone's dog is stolen, in many jurisdictions it's also property loss—even though that "property" may have shared their life for 15 years, comforted them through loss, and been a family member in every way that matters emotionally.

The law tends to lag behind science and society.

The irony is that people who make laws often demand scientific proof that animals have emotions, while simultaneously talking to their own dogs, celebrating their birthdays, recognizing their unique personalities, and knowing exactly when their dog is sad, scared, excited, or happy.

Yet dogs are still just "property" according to law. That's one of the biggest contradictions in animal welfare, isn't it?

The first branch I want to introduce you to is The Crossing. This is very near and dear to my heart and I have filled this role 29 times now until their last breath, over almost 10 years.

🌈 THE CROSSING
No Soul Crosses Alone.

There is a part of rescue that few people talk about.

It is not the happy adoption photos.
It is not the success stories.
It is not the puppies.

It is the quiet moments.

The senior dog who has been abandoned after a lifetime of loyalty.

The cancer patient whose family could not afford treatment.

The hospice dog whose body is failing but whose heart still wants one more sunset.

The broken souls who have reached the point where the world has decided they are no longer worth saving.

These are the animals The Crossing was created for.

The Crossing exists for the seniors, the terminally ill, the hospice cases, the medically fragile, and the forgotten souls whose time may be measured in days, weeks, or months instead of years.

While many walk away from these cases because they are heartbreaking, expensive, and rarely come with happy endings, we move closer.

Because we believe every life has value.

Every soul deserves comfort.

Every animal deserves dignity.

And no dog should spend their final days alone, unwanted, or afraid.

At The Crossing, we provide hospice care, pain management, adaptive support, medical advocacy, soft beds, warm meals, gentle hands, and unwavering love.

Some will recover and continue their journey. Some will simply rest here until it is time to cross.

But every animal who enters The Crossing receives the same promise:

You matter.

You are loved.

And when the world turns away, we will stay.

The Crossing is not built by one person.

It is carried by people willing to stand beside animals during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.

We are looking for compassionate volunteers who can help:

Most of Addy's pictures involve her doing 1 of 2 things: zooming at the speed of light or causing some level of chaos with her toys.

For those who dont know Addy, she's a pint-size pibble with endless energy, a goofy personality, and enough sass to keep everyone on their toes.

But every now and then, she slows down and reminds us there is another side to her. The side that just wants to be close. The side that melts into your arms, gives the sweetest cuddles, and looks at you like you're her whole world. That's the Addy I want the world to see!

For years, we have stood in the gap for the forgotten.

The seniors nobody wanted. The hospice dogs nobody would take. The paralyzed. The abused. The discarded. The ones abandoned when their care became too hard. The ones whose stories didn’t come with guaranteed happy endings.

And through it all, one truth kept finding us over and over again: We are the Ferryman.

We carry the abandoned. We stand beside the suffering. We fight for the forgotten. And when the world turns away…we stay until the very end.

Today, we are finally putting a name to the mission that has quietly existed at the heart of everything we do.

⚓ Introducing: THE FERRYMAN PROJECT

The Ferryman Project was not created in a boardroom.

It was born from years of witnessing suffering firsthand. From grief. From impossible choices. From staying beside the broken when others walked away. From carrying souls through pain, fear, healing, and sometimes even their final journey.

It was built from experience. From exhaustion. From compassion. From responsibility. And from the unwavering belief that no animal should ever suffer alone or be abandoned simply because their care became difficult.

While many national animal welfare organizations have become increasingly data-driven, PR-driven, and intake/outcome focused, we have remained rooted in something far more important: presence.

We have remained rooted in witnessing suffering firsthand, taking responsibility when others step back, and refusing to abandon the difficult cases simply because they are expensive, inconvenient, or heartbreaking.

The public has been led to believe that lower euthanasia rates automatically mean less suffering. But from where we stand, the reality often looks very different.

We see exploding street populations. Unmanaged breeding. Medical neglect. Rescues collapsing under impossible pressure. Shelters refusing intake. More dogs abandoned in rural counties. And suffering becoming decentralized — pushed further out of sight, but never truly addressed.

Because when suffering happens outside shelter walls, society has somehow been taught that it counts less.

We reject that philosophy. To us, an animal suffering unseen is still suffering.

We do not measure success solely by what "disappears from a spreadsheet." We measure it by standing in the gap — between abandoned animals and the systems that failed them, between suffering and safety, between neglect and compassion.

This is more than rescue. It is hospice care. Special-needs support. Emergency intervention. Advocacy. Community. And the promise that even in their hardest moments, they will never be abandoned again.
