Three Eagles Rotary welcomed District Governor Sophie Szymeczek for an update on Rotary’s future in eastern North Carolina.

Beginning July 1, 2027, Districts 7720 and 7730 will merge to form the new District 7725, bringing together roughly 80 clubs from the Virginia border to the South Carolina line.

Sophie also challenged Rotarians to focus on projects that create lasting impact, tell the story of Rotary’s service, invest in young people through programs like Interact and RYLA, support The Rotary Foundation, and continue the fight to eradicate polio.

Her message was simple: the spirit of service is alive and well, and Rotary’s future depends on giving the next generation opportunities to put it into action.

Thank you, Sophie, for visiting Three Eagles Rotary and sharing your enthusiasm for what’s ahead!

Three Eagles Rotary welcomed Tommy Sanders, Vice Chair of the Wayne County Board of Education, this morning for an update on Wayne County Public Schools. There was plenty of good news to share!

Over the past three years, WCPS has climbed from 91st to 51st among North Carolina’s 115 school districts, with the district reporting the greatest cumulative academic growth in the state during that period. Twelve of the 16 schools previously designated as low-performing have come off that list, and Eastern Wayne Middle School earned the state’s highest possible growth rating for the second year in a row.

Sanders also highlighted the district's growing emphasis on Career and Technical Education, giving students hands-on experience in fields including welding, HVAC, electrical work and construction: skills that can put graduates directly on the path to good-paying careers.

Thanks to Tommy for joining us, for a lively conversation, and for his service to the students and families of Wayne County!

Three Eagles Rotary welcomed Kelly Arnold, Deputy City Manager for the City Government of Goldsboro, NC, who gave us an inside look at the City’s plans for improving Goldsboro’s streets.

Kelly discussed the City’s comprehensive assessment of street conditions, the $1.2 million in improvements currently underway, and a significantly expanded $3.2 million street improvement program planned for the coming year. He also explained how the City decides whether a street needs complete reconstruction, resurfacing, or preventive maintenance, and how City projects differ from NCDOT projects.

Thanks to Kelly for joining us and for a great discussion about the infrastructure we all depend on every day!
