Day 1 of Construction Camp is officially in the books, and what a great start it was!

Our campers kicked off the day with a classroom session focused on the safe and effective use of basic construction tools before putting their new knowledge into action by building their own modules. Throughout the day, they were guided by our Habitat construction team, dedicated community volunteers, and Mark from Solid Rock Carpentry LLC, who shared his expertise and passion for the skilled trades.

During lunch, campers had the opportunity to learn about the many career paths available in the construction industry from Josh Price with T. A. Loving Company. They also received a financial literacy lesson from Kaylee with NC Community Credit Union, helping them understand the importance of managing money and planning for the future.

The learning continued as Chris from Jackson Builders Inc. provided an introduction to blueprint reading, teaching campers how construction professionals turn plans on paper into completed projects.

Day 1 was a tremendous success, and we can't wait to welcome everyone back tomorrow as we shift our focus to the exciting world of electrical work!

Today, we celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and father figures who help build strong families and brighter futures.

A father’s love, guidance, and hard work help create the foundation that children stand on for years to come. Whether it’s teaching life lessons, lending a helping hand, or simply being present, fathers play an important role in making a house feel like home.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads and father figures in our community. Thank you for all you do to build homes, strengthen families, and inspire hope every day.

One of the biggest misconceptions about us is that we "give away" homes. The truth is much different and much more empowering.

Habitat homeowners purchase their homes through an affordable mortgage designed to fit their income. Before receiving the keys, families invest hundreds of hours of partnership equity, attend financial education classes, and work alongside volunteers to help build their homes and strengthen their financial future.

Affordable homeownership creates stability, builds equity, and provides families with the opportunity to create a firm foundation for generations to come. It's not a handout but it's a hand up that helps families achieve the dream of homeownership and build lasting wealth for their children and grandchildren.
