Can your child dial 911? Do they have your phone number memorized? Emergencies can strike unexpectedly, and children often need to rely on adults for safety. But what if they need to protect themselves?

This Emergency Preparedness Month, dedicate some time to equip your family:

✔️ Teach kids how and when to dial 911
✔️ Ensure your child can recite their full name, address, and emergency contacts back to you
✔️ Develop and rehearse a home fire escape plan
✔️ Assemble an emergency kit stocked with essential supplies for children

Don't panic! Prepared families can respond faster and stay safer in emergencies. Being prepared safeguards our most vulnerable loved ones.

6-9 p.m. is one of the deadliest windows for pedestrians — right as most of us are driving home, picking up dinner or walking the dog.

The majority of pedestrian deaths in 2024 happened in the dark. Slow down and stay alert!

October is Window Covering Safety Month.

👶 Every moment of every day, babies and young children depend on adults for their safety. 🚗
One of the best ways to keep your baby safe is by using the right car seat correctly for each ride.

✔️ Always use a rear-facing car seat for as long as possible
✔️ Ensure harness straps are snug and positioned at or below the shoulders
✔️ Never leave your baby unattended in a vehicle
✔️ Place babies on their backs to sleep in a safe environment

Simple actions can prevent serious injuries and save lives every day!

Keep your baby safe every ride, every time. Interested in learning more?

We were happy to participate in TEAM
Chevy’s Collision Center event on Saturday. Our coalition completed 12 educational and car seat installation sessions with 9 parents and distributed 6 car seats to families in our community.

Thank you all at TEAM for making that possible and for providing seats to help children ride safely.

Also, thank you to everyone who gave their time, energy, and expertise to make this event such a success. We could not have done this without the Wayne County Health Department and our Coalition Chair, Tara Humphries.

Because of teamwork, we were able to connect with families, provide important safety education, and help keep children safer on the road. That is a wonderful impact!
