Last Alarm Foundation of North Carolina, Inc. This vehicle shall serve as a unique opportunity to honor firefighters that have dedicated their lives to protecting and serving our community.

The Last Alarm Foundation's purpose is to provide deceased Firefighters with appropriate and dignified transportation to their final resting place...their "Last Alarm". Who We Are
The Last Alarm Foundation of North Carolina (LAFNC) was created solely for the purpose of developing and maintaining a “Last Alarm Apparatus” to transport departed firefighters to their final places of rest - their “Last

Alarm.” To observe this fire service time honored tradition, LAFNC will convert, restore, and sustain an antique fire truck (1942 Ford Maxim), with historic ties to Goldsboro and Wayne County, into a funeral coach to transport deceased firefighters to their final resting place. The truck is intended to be available for funerals of emergency responders killed in the line of duty; or that are retired and living in North Carolina at the time of their passing. The truck will also be used to educate the public by promoting various fire & life safety programs in our community.

Sadly, I must replace the engine in my 1942 Fire Truck. Have a great engine for the swap, and I believe now would be the time to replace the transmission with a TH350 (via a Performance Adapter) just to improve safety and drivability. Have the shifter and hand brake products from Lokar, but what about the foot brake? Will a frame mounted master cylinder upgrade line up with where the brake pedal was/should be, or do I have to upgrade to a firewall mounted master cylinder? www.lastalarmnc.com

Last Alarm NC Followers,
I have great news:
The owners of Performance Adapters (https://www.facebook.com/PerformanceAdapters) have offered to supply us the parts we need to mate our new engine to the automatic transmission – specifically, the PACH101: Chevrolet Inline/Straight-6 (216/235/261) to Chevy/GM (ref.TH350/TH400) V8 Automatic Transmission Adapter Kit.
This is huge for us and gets us closer to getting our Last Alarm Funeral Coach on the road again.
We are still in need of the TH350 Transmission w/ Torque Converter and Cooler, and the Lokar (https://www.facebook.com/lokarinc) Shifter. These items are easily sourced at market value, but as you all well know, we are a non-profit. Any help we can obtain would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your support of the Last Alarm Foundation of NC.

We have purchased a used 235 engine from Schwanke Engines in Minnesota. This particular engine was in a ‘61 farm truck. It is in excellent shape.

Plan: Mate engine with TH350 Transmission using a Performance Adapter and a Lokar shifter. This will improve safety and drivability for funerals.

Still need to source the adapter, transmission, shifter, and transmission cooler. Oh yeah - and do the work….

As we need a new engine for the Last Alarm Funeral Coach, the primary ideas are:

a. Find a running Stovebolt Chevy engine and do a quick swap - keeping costs low, and getting the truck on the road.

b. Start the ground up resto-mod - stripping it down to the frame, upgrading suspension, and drive train to modern (LS or 350/automatic/mustang front end, etc.). Not cheep - not quick!

Vote A or B or throw in your suggestions here!

Good News / Bad News

Good - Completed rebuilding the sirens. One works perfectly. The other might take a bit more work. Still, they are both painted and mounted; Just need to wire them. They were red when we got the truck but since we could not match the red and simply can't afford chrome right now, we had the shells powdercoated black.

Bad News - the engine must be replaced. Hard to believe it has come to this. Working ideas right now. This will not be an easy, cheap, or quick fix.

In honor of Easter, I have brought an 80 year old siren back to life.
