Our chicken coop is on the way! We’re gonna have eggs for you at reasonable prices real soon! Thanks to the folks for their regenerative grant which will allow us to also use the waste from the chickens as fertilizer! Stay tuned! More to come! 🐤🐣🥚

Well, after we got back from our trip we came back to this… All farmers know that mother nature has her own set of rules when it comes to how she operates and we are so blessed and fortunate no one was hurt. It will take some time but we will repair what has been broken and replace what has been taken. Just like the structure on this high tunnel, we are still standing.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of attending the kickoff for Small Farmer’s week where own Patrick Brown was honored as one of the 2024 Small Farmer of the Year. We are so proud of all he has accomplished and loved touring his farm! A true example of generational legacy.

Legacy farmer, Cheryl Alston started her journey as a science educator and chemist/biologist, but she wanted to address a serious issues in Wayne County, North Carolina.

In her community high rates of cancer, diabetes and other health issues plagued her community. “What can I do,? Ms. Alston asked. The answer was in a local food initiative she joined with a handful of her community members.

Working with the Wayne Food Initiative and North Carolina State University, she discovered that her beloved Goldsboro was a food desert. So she and others who knew the assignment dug in, literally.

“We had it going on when it came to growing healthy food,” recalls the educator-turned-farmer.

She opened a farm with four other of her childhood friends to launch a farm in the section of Goldsboro called Little Washington. Their collective became the Little Washington Growing Group.

In the process, she reached back to her family’s legacy of farming.

Today, the octogenarian still farms on 19 acres she and her daughter own with 5 acres leased.

As a chemist, she emphasizes growing fruits and vegetables without the use of chemicals, herbicides and pesticides.
