Happy Giving Tuesday! This is our 12th year of running Zephaniah’s Promise Ranch! We had many adventures, some good (improving health of horses), some scary (nearby fires) and some just plain fun (teaching kids about horses). We enjoyed many first time visitors stopping in to meet the horses and see the ranch, and we also welcomed back a family that came every week to help with chores and run things in our absence.
This year we continued focusing on the health of our horses. Montana’s hoof situation has been treated well by our farrier and has improved to a point where we have not had to re-shoe him since last winter. Hope, bless her heart, survived another year, though her arthritis continues to worsen. Remy and Samson are doing well and continue to make us laugh with the antics and smile when they scratch each others necks. We want to thank you for all your support these past years to help improve the lives of our rescue horses.
While we are happy with the current health of the equine, they of course are all a year older and with that comes additional supplements and care. We have added supplements to their food that are unique to aging that have increased our costs. Earlier this year we received a grant from the Yakima Nation which helped fund the repairs of the pastures’ run-in sheds—after 12 years most were ready to have sides replaced and painted which is still an ongoing project. Thankfully the hay barn is full till next spring, so we will focus our funding this year on those supplements, and veterinarian and farrier care.
We hope you will continue to support our mission of providing a safe place for horses and opportunities for kids and their families and as we settle into the winter months we are already dreaming about next spring and all the activities we can plan with your help!
