Yesterday I had the opportunity to bring my love for 4-H to the Goldendale FFA Ag day at Goldendale High School. Miss Daisy doesn’t really like the wind very much, so she decided to stay at home for the day, but I wasn’t going to let the wind stop me from showing all the amazing kids who come what 4-H was about. We had an amazing pocket pet adoption happening at our table and the kids were able to ask lots of fun questions about the 4-H program! Did you know that 4-H wasn’t originally called 4-H but was started by rural science programs and clubs, such as the Corn Club and the Tomato Club? Originally the program was started to help promote newer agricultural practices to youth so they would pass the information on to adults in the agriculture community, as well as promoting agriculture to less rural areas. In 1914 the 4-H program was officially formalized by Congress thanks to the USDA leading to the program we have today. Over the last 120+ years we have grown to 6.5 million members! I’m hoping that I was able to get at least a few kids excited about joining 4-H so that we will be able to grow our member count even more. Thank you Goldendale FFA for letting me join today to promote not only 4-H, but some things we are both passionate about; our love for agriculture, our community, and a better tomorrow.
