Happy National Volunteer Week! ✨🎉

We want to extend our gratitude for the 100+ volunteers that give their time, energy, and passion to our program every single year. From leading club or project meetings, chaperoning members at conferences, helping plan fundraisers, and organizing workshops and shows, we would not have 4-H without volunteers!

Collectively, they power the 4-H motto of "Making the Best Better" and give young people hands-on experiences, mentorship, and leadership opportunities that prepare them to lead for a lifetime.

Thank you for all that you do for our youth, you are making an impact on our future generations and our local community!

If you know a 4-H volunteer, be sure to tell them thank you!💚🍀

Last month was Spring Break for Jeffco Public Schools, so our office held activities for our 4-H'ers! Two days were packed with fun and featured a different theme, related to 4-H project areas, and youth had the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities.

Our first day was all about outdoor exploration! Youth got to try out archery in the morning and then headed over to Lair O' the Bear Park, where we explored riparian ecosystems through building beaver dams and catching invertebrates. The day ended with a senses walk, where members used their eyes, ears, hands, and nose to immerse themselves in and appreciate our natural environment.

The second day focused on vet science! Our members started the morning with a cow dissection lab with CSU Extension's Veterinary Specialist, Dr. Whitman. They learned about the bodily systems and how they support a cow throughout its life, then practiced their suturing skills on imitation skin. The afternoon featured a tour of CSU Spur, where our 4-H'ers observed veterinary procedures, explored VR programs being used to train vet students, and learned about animal-assisted therapies. At the end of the day, youth studied skeletal and muscular diagrams of horses and mapped them on a horse's body!

In 4-H, education is what we do. While these activities were fun. they also exposed our members to different interest areas, which can spark new passions and broaden their future possibilities!

Joining 4-H: Step 2 is Pick a Project!

So, you are interested in 4-H! You know you want your child to experience the impacts of research-backed, positive youth development programs that help young people grow life skills, find their spark, and become involved community members.

You have chosen a club in your area that would be a good fit for your family, so what's next?

Time to pick a project! 4-H offers over 50 different project areas that youth can use to explore their interests! Curious about how to create beautiful, frosted cakes? Pick cake decorating! Interested in learning how to raise a chicken? Pick a poultry project! Want the skills to start making your own clothes? Pick clothing construction! What about the intricacies of beehives and how honey is made? We have beekeeping! There is so much for youth to explore through 4-H!

Once youth have picked a project, they can get connected with a project group, to be a part of meetings where adult leaders help guide learning experiences. If we don't have a volunteer for a project area, don't worry! Our office can get you connected with the resources for self-guided learning at home.

Interested in becoming a volunteer to help share your passions and experiences with youth? Contact our office at (303)271-6620 to learn how to become a 4-H volunteer!

You can find a full list of available projects through Colorado 4-H on their website - https://co4h.colostate.edu/4h-resource/4-h-projects-list/
