Earlier this summer, we visited Wild Mountain Ranch for an educational tour of their property, where members learned firsthand from owner Brittyne and her daughter all about running a ranch.

We heard about how they use regenerative agricultural practices to manage the land, their stewardship of heritage breeds they care for including Scottish Highlands and Navajo-Churro Sheep, as well as products produced from these animals, like beef and fiber!

Brittyne explained how fiber is transformed into the yarn you see in stores and even gave a demonstration on how you can use fiber to make felt.

It was such an amazing, educational experience! Exposing youth to career options early can help shape what they see for themselves in the future and expand their possibilities!

Thanks so much Brittyne for having us and sharing all about your animals and small business!

As summer comes to an end, we are taking a look back on some of the fun our members got into!

Our senior 4-H'er Nicholas represented Jeffco 4-H and Colorado 4-H at the National 4-H Shooting Sports Championships for the second year in a row! In 2025 he qualified for the Outdoor Skills team and this year he qualified for compound archery.

Congratulations Nicholas on all the hard work you have put in! He helped earn Colorado 10th place in compound archery, out of 30 teams from across the country.

Congratulations to all of our 4-H members who exhibited a project at the 2026 Jeffco 4-H Fair!

We loved seeing all of the hard work our members put on display, whether it was a beautifully decorated cake or impressive showmanship skills in the show ring.

With more than 130 exhibitors at this year's fair, exceeding participation from the past two years, it was amazing to see the positive energy each day! Whether it was your first fair or your last with us, thank you for being a part of it.

The fair is a wonderful opportunity for our 4-H families to come together and bond through this shared experience. We look forward to continuing to grow our program and seeing more youth benefit from all that 4-H has to offer!

At the end of May, our Jeffco 4-H shooting sports members participated in the first county shoot of the summer!

This is where 4-H'ers of each discipline compete against other members in their age division, to qualify for the CO 4-H State Shooting Sports Championships.

It is a great opportunity for our youth to test themselves, connect with fellow shooting sports members, and continue to grow in their life skills like sportsmanship, managing stress, and overcoming challenges.

Great job to all who participated! We can't wait to announce who will advance to state at the Jeffco 4-H Fair Kick-Off!

Ready to jump into an exciting new 4‑H adventure? Join us at the Jeffco 4‑H Fair for our Catch‑An‑Animal Contest — your chance to start a full year of raising and showing your very own market animal!

On August 1st, any Jefferson County youth ages 8–17 can jump in and race to pull a flag off a loose sheep. If you catch a flag, you’ll receive a free market animal (except beef) to raise, show, and sell at the 2027 Youth Livestock Auction! Join us at 12pm in the Jeffco Fairgrounds Event Center!

• Free to participate
• No current 4‑H enrollment required
• Youth must enroll in 4‑H for the upcoming program year if they catch an animal
• A great way to try something new, make friends, and learn hands‑on skills!

Know a young person who isn’t in 4‑H yet but might love the experience? Invite them to come out and give it a try!

Earlier this spring, Jeffco 4-H brought a new field trip opportunity for school groups called Routes and Routes - an agriculture exploration field trip!

We welcomed 750 youth over two days, to explore different agricultural topics, like how to make butter, the importance of biosecurity, planting microgreens, learning about pollinators, and interacting with animals!

The goal of this field trip is to build connections between youth and agriculture and potentially inspire them to be a part of the next generation of farmers and ranchers!

A huge thank you our partners who helped make this field trip possible: CSU Spur, Cal-Wood Education Center, Colorado Agriculture in the Classroom. Colorado Parks and Wildlife, CSU Extension's Vet Specialist Kathy Whitman, Front Range Livestock Association, Openenergi, CSU Extension - Jefferson County, and Colorado 4-H's STEM Specialist, Toby Swaford!

You're Invited to the Jeffco 4-H Fair Livestock Auction and Youth Market!

On August 1st we will be hosting our annual Youth Market, BBQ Dinner, and Livestock Auction as a part of the Jeffco 4-H Fair! This is a great way for the community to come support local 4-H youth.

The Youth Market is similar to a Farmer's Market, where youth can sell items related to the project they have worked on all year. You can find things like honey, baked good, crocheted items, and jewelry!

The BBQ Dinner is a fundraiser for our catch-an-animal program! Catch-an-animal is a mad dash for youth to pull a flag off a sheep, which represents a market species they will choose, raise over the following year, and then show at next year's fair. Dinner prices are $10/plate for ages 12+, $5/plate for ages 4-11, and ages under 3 are free.

The Livestock Auction is where Jeffco 4-H members sell their market animals to the highest bidder! Steer, swine, sheep, and more! Come and support a young, local producer. Buyers at the auction get a free BBQ Dinner!

These events at the end of our program year are rewarding experiences for members, where they can see their hard work pay off. We look forward to seeing you there!

Not able to make it, but still want to support our market livestock members? Make a donation - https://jeffco4hfair.square.site/

Earlier this spring, a group of Jeffco 4-H'ers participated in Colorado 4-H's Be Your Personal Best Youth Summit, where they heard from Olympian Triathlete, Hunter Kemper.

He talked about how youth can use the same strategies that he does, to be their personal best, including perseverance, positive self-talk, and making healthy choices.

Youth then got to explore the US Olympic and Paralympic Museum!

4-H provides opportunities like these and more, for youth to grow in life skills and prepare them to be our next generation of leaders.
