This caught my attention this morning and seemed worth sharing with our Gold Canyon community.

Lake Powell has officially fallen to its lowest level on record, and Lake Mead also reached a record low just nine days earlier.

Why does that matter to us in Arizona?
The Colorado River supplies water to roughly 40 million people across seven states and more than 5 million acres of farmland. Lake Powell and Lake Mead together hold nearly 60% of the water currently stored in the Colorado River Basin.

Lake Powell is now less than 30 feet above the level where Glen Canyon Dam can no longer generate hydroelectric power.

One important point from the article: this does not mean Arizona is suddenly running out of water. Communities across the state have been preparing for Colorado River shortages and developing other water supplies.

But these record-low levels are certainly something worth paying attention to as Arizona and the other Colorado River states work through what comes next.

Lake Powell, the second-largest reservoir in the United States, provides water and electricity to millions in the West. It has now has shrunk to its lowest level on record.

Gold Canyon has had some GOOD storms this past week! 🌧️ The dramatic skies, rumbling thunder, and cooler air are always welcome after those hot summer days. We have about one month left of monsoon season, so let’s enjoy it: and stay safe! 💜

A few friendly reminders:

🌩️ Head indoors when lightning is nearby.
💨 Secure patio furniture, umbrellas, planters, and anything else that can blow around.
🚗 Never drive through a flooded roadway or wash. Turn around, don’t drown!
⚡ Stay away from downed power lines and report them to the appropriate authorities.
🐾 Bring pets inside before the storm arrives. Thunder can make even the calmest pets nervous.

Monsoon storms can be messy, loud, and unpredictable: but they also bring some of the most beautiful skies of the year. Here’s to enjoying the cooler air, watching the clouds roll in, and making it through the rest of monsoon season safely!
