The Gold Bar VFW Post 9417 wishes you all a happy Memorial Day!

Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, emerged in the wake of the Civil War as a solemn time for Americans to honor the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation's freedom.

First widely observed in 1868, it began with the simple act of decorating graves with flowers and flags, a heartfelt gesture to remember the fallen and bind a healing nation together.

Over time, it evolved to commemorate all who have died in military service, reminding us that our liberties rest on their courage, selflessness, and quiet heroism.

On this day, we pause to reflect with gratitude and love. Wishing everyone a meaningful and happy Memorial Day filled with remembrance, peace, and connection to those who matter most.
Happy memorial day and God bless America!

Today, the Gold Bar VFW Post 9417 flag flies at half-staff in solemn honor of Major Ariana Savino, a proud daughter of Covington Wa who gave her life in service to our nation.
At just 31, Ariana was killed during combat missions over Iraq. Today we lower our flags not just in mourning, but in deep gratitude for her sacrifice.
Rest easy, Major Savino. Thank you for your service. You are forever remembered and missed. πŸ’”πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
