The Kindness Counts Scholarship, now being offered for the 8th year, was created by an anonymous group of people to recognize high school students who have made a positive impact in the lives of others while inspiring their peers to pursue philanthropy and acts of kindness within their communities. This year's recipient is Owen Dent at USD 265-Eisenhower High School

"We are excited to present Owen with a scholarship to be used towards his Education at The University of Tulsa. Owen had many hours of school related volunteer work, however for us, it was him showing up for his neighbor that highlighted his character and willingness to take initiative when he saw a need for someone who was going through a difficult transition at home."

"When challenging seasons face us, oftentimes well meaning friends and family will say "let me know what you need, or how I can help" .Yet when a person is overwhelmed with grief, difficult decisions, and life transitions, it can be yet another task that they are assigned with...thinking of what they need when they aren't even sure where to start. Thank you Owen for giving us the opportunity to learn more about you. Have a great summer!"

Thank you to the counseling teams at USD 265-Goddard High School & USD 265-Eisenhower High School for helping us to get the word out about the scholarship each year. Thank you to all of the students who applied this year, we enjoyed learning more about the work that you are already doing in your community! 🎓

Congratulations to Emma Harrington at USD 265-Eisenhower High School on being the recipient of the Kindness Counts Scholarship. We loved learning about your volunteer experiences that strengthen your community and instill acts of service that model real life skills. Your ability to bond with others through art is so special. Not only did you teach them a skill that they will remember, and likely show others, but you were able to learn more about them, their worlds and the values that they hold dear. Empathy is a strength that has given you the ability to foster connections with others and ultimately contribute in such a positive way to build relationships. We wish you the best in your future at The University of Kansas!

We believe a little kindness goes a long way, this scholarship recognizes a recipient who has made a positive impact in the lives of others while inspiring their peers to pursue philanthropy and random acts of kindness within their communities. For the last 6 years, we have had the honor of learning more about Seniors at EHS & GHS. This year, the Kindness Counts Scholarship is being awarded to a Senior at Eisenhower High School.

This student has logged over 670 volunteer hours though tutoring, student support, concessions at games, and serving as the manager for the Tennis team after an injury left her unable to play. After this injury, she became even more involved with the arts and volunteer opportunities.

Through her artistic abilities, and longing to connect with the community, she has provided comfort to those grieving, hospitalized, or undergoing medical treatment. Her leadership also led the completion of a project that helped to keep kids safe while incorporating engaging and interactive fun!

The American Flag/Constitution mural that she painted, along with her sister is remarkable. The time, dedication and vision for this huge undertaking will be something that students, staff and visitors can enjoy for years to come. As she so beautifully stated, “While many people think of walls as things that divide us, this mural is doing the opposite- uniting people.”

Your art brings beauty, connection and meaning. We are thrilled to announce that the winner of this year’s Kindness Counts Scholarship will be awarded to Angela Davis. We wish you the best at OSU and have no doubt that you will continue to spread kindness wherever you go.

Thank you to the counseling team for giving us the opportunity to learn more about these incredible students. This is truly something we look forward to each year.
