Cassopolis Pulls Away Early in Win Over Gobles

A talented Cassopolis squad scored on its first three possessions and led big at halftime on Friday night, handing Gobles a 50-12 loss that dropped the Tigers to 1-6. Gobles showed real fight after the break, scoring both of its touchdowns in the second half, but the early deficit was too much to overcome.

Cassopolis opened with a 48-yard touchdown pass and added a 33-yard scoring pass and a 1-yard run before the first quarter ended. Gobles had its chances in the first half. The Tigers pushed to the Cassopolis 4-yard line in the second quarter after Avery Greffe ripped off a 24-yard run, but came up empty on four tries from inside the 6 and turned the ball over on downs. Cassopolis answered with touchdown strikes of 22 and 22 yards in the second quarter to build its 35-0 halftime lead.

The Tigers came out of the locker room with purpose. Noah Philley broke loose for an 84-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, a play the offensive line made possible with a clean lane up the middle of the field. The two-point try fell short. Cassopolis added a 29-yard score in the third, but Gobles kept grinding in the fourth. Max Sager, Greffe, and Hunter Piper all took turns moving the chains. A 31-yard completion from Greffe to Coal Otis, with 19 of those yards after the catch, put Gobles in scoring position. Philley then ran for 7 yards, Piper picked up 4, and Brody Marshall powered in from 6 yards out for the Tigers' second touchdown. The two-point try again came up short, and Cassopolis closed the scoring with a 2-yard run and a two-point conversion.

The Tigers finished with 197 yards on 50 plays, 3.9 yards per play, and 136 of those yards came on the ground on 39 carries. Philley led the way with 99 yards on 5 carries, while Greffe (22 yards on 7 carries), Piper (22 yards on 13 carries), Jet Ray (12 yards on 6 carries), and Marshall (8 yards and a touchdown on 2 carries) all contributed. The passing game was a team effort as well, with David Johns catching a 33-yard throw from Sager, Otis hauling in the 31-yarder from Greffe, and Piper adding a catch, for 3 completions on 10 attempts and 61 yards. Turnovers and penalties stalled several drives, and Gobles went 0 of 2 on two-point tries. The Tigers have plenty to clean up, and the 84-yard run and the late touchdown drive show what the group can do when the blocking and the ball carriers are in sync as they prepare for Week 8.

Carter Anderson also gave Gobles a lift in the kicking game by recovering an onside kick.

Defensively, Otis and Sager set the tone with six tackles each, with Otis also breaking up a pass and Sager adding three solo stops. Otis continues to build on a solid senior season and Sager is a rising junior who is experiencing a breakout year. Piper finished with four tackles, a tackle for loss, and a quarterback pressure, and Dominic Redaway added three tackles. Marshall disrupted the pocket with two quarterback pressures, and Johns also got to the quarterback with a pressure.

Introducing The Tiger Tee Design Challenge!

This year, Gobles students have the chance to design our first annual Tiger Tee, and it all starts with YOU.

Presented by Gobles Football, here's a chance for any Gobles Middle High School student to put their design work to the test and create something that will leave a lasting legacy. In addition, this initiative will support another Gobles student club or organization.

Here's how it works: any Gobles middle or high school student can submit a design that captures what makes Gobles special. Somewhere in your design, include an element of Gobles football, whether that's Friday night lights, a tradition from the program, a helmet or field element, or just that Friday night feeling, alongside whatever else says Gobles to you: school pride, community, tradition. The winning design will be professionally produced and sold, with proceeds going to support another Gobles student club or organization. The winning student will be credited as the official designer.

Who: All Gobles middle and high school students
What: Design the official Tiger Tee, incorporating some element of Gobles Football
When: Submissions due Monday, November 2
Where: Email your design to Coach Eichler at [email protected] or drop it off at Coach Eichler's office
Why: One student design becomes a real shirt that represents Gobles, and the proceeds give back to another Gobles student organization

Another GREAT day to be a Gobles Tiger! 🐾

We were grateful to welcome Gobles alumnus Kip Kalisiak and his three sons to practice during their visit from North Carolina.

Kip shared a powerful reminder with our team: the lessons learned on the football field last long after your playing days are over. He encouraged our players to embrace the opportunities they have while wearing a Gobles jersey and make the most of their time together.

Thank you, Kip, for investing in the next generation of Tigers and showing your sons what Gobles Football means to you! 🟠🔵

Centreville Tops Gobles in Week 6

Gobles fell to Centreville 32-0 on Friday, October 2, in a game where two of the Bulldogs' four touchdowns came on interception returns. The Tigers defense held Centreville's offense to 182 yards on 41 plays, 4.4 yards per snap, and forced two takeaways, but turnovers and a tough night moving the ball kept Gobles off the scoreboard.

The decisive stretch came in the second quarter, when Centreville returned a pair of interceptions for touchdowns, one for 29 yards and one for 55. Centreville's other two scores came on a 19-yard pass and a 4-yard run, and the Bulldogs converted on all four of their two-point tries. The Tigers also dealt with five penalties for 40 yards, including three holding calls that pushed drives backward in the first half.

Gobles showed more life in the second half, especially on the ground. The Tigers strung together their longest sustained stretch of the night in the third quarter, with runs of 10, 9, 8 and 7 yards, and shared the load among Ray, Carlin, Hunter Piper, Timms and Marshall. Ray led the team with 18 carries for 63 yards and Carlin added 37 yards on 11 carries. Sager caught the Tigers' lone completion, a 4-yard grab, as Timms, Ray, Carlin and Piper all took turns throwing against a tight Centreville secondary. Gobles was only able to muster 114 rushing yards against a stout Centreville defense. The Tigers will look to protect the football and build on the late rushing success when they take the field again next week.

The defense gave Gobles chances all night. Sager led the way for the second straight week with 9 tackles, followed by Timms with 7 and Ray with 5, plus 3 quarterback pressures and a forced fumble. Marshall was a constant presence in the backfield with 6 quarterback pressures and a tackle for loss, and Avery Greffe recovered a fumble and added a tackle for loss among his 4 stops. Quinteros-Constanza also recovered a fumble, Otis broke up 2 passes, and Philley added a pass breakup of his own.

The Gobles Football family sends our heartfelt condolences to Coach Lincoln Klinger’s family and the entire Mendon Football community. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones, players, and fellow coaches during this difficult time.

💚 REMEMBERING LINCOLN KLINGER 💚

The Mendon Rocket Football family is heartbroken by the loss of Lincoln Sterling Klinger, who passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family at the age of 44.

Lincoln was so much more than a football director. He was a coach, a teacher, a mentor, a leader, and a friend. Most importantly, he was a husband and father who loved his family more than anything in this world.

Lincoln had a passion for coaching that went far beyond the scoreboard. He had a gift for teaching, encouraging, challenging, and believing in young people. He understood that coaching was about more than wins and losses—it was about helping kids become better athletes, better teammates, and better people. He gave his time, his energy, his knowledge, and his heart to the Rocket Football program and to the kids who came through it.

But anyone who knew Lincoln knew that his favorite sideline was the one where his four boys were playing. He was their biggest fan, and he never missed an opportunity to cheer them on, encourage them, and let them know how proud he was. Those boys will carry the memory of their dad standing on the sideline, cheering them on, for the rest of their lives.

Lincoln brought that same passion into his work as a teacher at Mendon and Three Rivers, where he touched the lives of countless students. He had a natural ability to connect with kids and make them believe they were capable of more. For Lincoln, teaching and coaching were never simply jobs—they were opportunities to make a difference.

Those of us who had the privilege of knowing Lincoln will remember his big heart, his sense of humor, his competitive spirit, his loyalty, and his ability to make people laugh and enjoy the moment. We’ll remember the football fields, the conversations, the Michigan football Saturdays, the Lions games, the golf outings, and all the memories made with family and friends.

Lincoln gave so much of himself to Mendon Rocket Football. His impact cannot be measured by wins, losses, seasons, or statistics. It is measured by the young people he encouraged, the athletes he believed in, the students he inspired, and the countless lives he made better simply by being there.

The Rocket Football family will miss you, Lincoln.

Thank you for everything you gave to our program, our kids, and our community. Your legacy will live on in every player you coached, every student you taught, every friend you made, and most of all, in your four boys.

Rest easy, Lincoln. You will never be forgotten. 💚🏈

Tigers Rush for 304 Yards in 45-18 Loss to Saugatuck

Gobles fell to Saugatuck 45-18 on Friday night. Gobles trailed 17-6 at the half and never got closer, but the offense had a strong night, piling up 304 rushing yards and scoring three touchdowns against a Saugatuck team that finished with 357 rushing yards of its own.

Saugatuck scored first, capping its opening drive with a 2-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Gobles answered in the second quarter when Case Lord broke loose for an 80-yard touchdown run, though the Tigers came up short on the 2-point try. Saugatuck answered with a 14-yard touchdown run and a 45-yard field goal to take a 17-6 lead into the break. Gobles also stalled on fourth down in the first half, turning the ball over on downs twice before halftime.

Saugatuck pulled away in the third quarter with touchdown runs of 55 and 14 yards, but the Tigers kept fighting. Lord ripped off a 34-yard run to set up Finn Carlin's 11-yard touchdown, and the Tigers were still moving the ball in the fourth quarter. Danny Timms found Max Sager for an 11-yard completion to the 4-yard line, and Lord finished the drive with a 1-yard touchdown plunge. Saugatuck answered with touchdown runs of 4 and 43 yards in the fourth to close out the scoring.

The offensive line deserves a big share of the credit for a ground game that averaged 6.3 yards on 48 carries. Lord found the room, carrying 18 times for 193 yards and two touchdowns, an average of 10.7 yards per carry, and he added 37 passing yards on 3 of 5 throws. Carlin ran 12 times for 54 yards and a score, Hunter Piper picked up 47 yards on 11 carries, and Avery Greffe and Timms chipped in on the ground as well. The passing game was a team effort too. Piper caught two passes for 21 yards, Sager caught two for 20, and Timms hauled in a 13-yard reception on top of his own throws. Gobles finished with 358 yards on 59 plays, 6.0 yards per play, and completed 5 of 10 passes for 54 yards. Costly mistakes held the Tigers back, including a fourth-quarter interception, three failed fourth-down tries, and misses on all three 2-point attempts. Gobles has more to build on than the final score suggests as it turns the page to Week 6.

Timms also gave the Tigers a spark in the return game, taking one kickoff back 50 yards and totaling 63 return yards on two returns.

Defensively, Sager set the pace with nine tackles, six of them solo, including the stop after Saugatuck's fourth-quarter interception return. Timms was right behind with seven tackles, and Zach Conner added six tackles with two tackles for loss. Carlin also applied pressure, credited with three quarterback pressures. Jet Ray and Dominic Redaway each chipped in four tackles and a tackle for loss.
