The Giving Box Update
Thursday, May 21, 2026

Hello neighbors, it's your Davenport Road mad scientist Quinton here and I'm pooped ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’จ I've been busy is an understatement. Grants, legal regulations, permits and just plain old planning for my new invention have kept me up into the wee hours of the night lately. That being said, I could use a little help straightening up The Giving Box. I've got bags of donations piling up I haven't gotten to yet, the floor is a mess and the hanging racks can be refilled. No need to ask, just drop by for 20 minutes and knock out a bag or 2 of clothes and that will help everyone. I know it's been hot so yall stay hydrated and in the shade as much as possible. Don't forget to check on each other.

Stay tuned for more updates soon.

The Giving Box Update
Saturday, May 16, 2026

Happy weekend neighbors! It's your Davenport Road mad scientist, Quinton here with another update. I know I haven't posted anything in several days and I apologize for that but I have been busier than a one-legged man in a 3-legged sack race...and he's winning! ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

Donations for basic household goods accepted daily.

Anywho, the box is still open every day from 8 am to 8 pm. We take donations every day all day. No appointments for general visits since they are mostly self serve but we are still doing the Virtual Showroom for furniture and appliances. You WILL have to use your EMAIL to setup an appointment to OFFER/REQUEST furniture and appliances that aren't available at The Giving Box. I have not received any new OFFERS lately and I have logged a few new REQUESTS for more appliances so all I can do is wait for the universe to fill the need. If you don't want to take it to the dump then email me pictures and a description of it at: [email protected]. I am going to make a separate post tomorrow for the Virtual Showroom so stay tuned.

In the box we are getting low on just about everything now. A lot of inventory has moved here in the last few months so if you're cleaning out your closet, shed, garage or storage unit and you end up with items you don't want to trash because they're still usable then we will take it for our neighbors in need. I try not to limit what yall donate but right now let's focus on clothes for children, men and women; canned, boxed and frozen foods; bathroom medicine cabinet items like toothpaste, over-the-counter medicine for colds, allergies and pain; paper products, bath items like towels, shampoo, deodorant, etc; household cleaning and laundry items; toys and cooking items like pots, pans and utensils. Imagine you are moving into a new place with just the clothes on your back. What are the bare minimum necessities you need? That's what we're looking for at The Giving Box. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I try not to encourage donations of luxury items due to the fact the box is open to the elements 24/7. Occasionally I receive radios, lamps, coffee makers, blenders, pictures in frames, knick knack shelves, decorative art and random pricey items. ๐Ÿ˜• I struggle a little when I encounter the really expensive things because I want my neighbors to have nice things but I also want them to have what they need first. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ Sometimes I do liquidate luxury items into store credits so I can get what my neighbors need but not often. If you still want to bring me luxury items then understand that anyone can grab it before I do it you just do it off. Use the email system if you want to make sure I get it.

Now, that's out of the way, time for some Mad Science ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ. I've been neck deep researching grants, EPA regulations, county laws, NIMBY and technical information on my invention that's making my head want to explode. For what it's worth, if this idea works half as well as my research indicates then we will have taken a small step towards becoming a Type 1 Civilization. VIMS, yall gonna wanna get in on this, I can almost guarantee it. ๐Ÿ“ž๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ

In a nutshell, once I finish getting 500 hours of runtime without incidents on my Prototype Model then I will have enough data to get a few grants to build the Commercial Model. My time line estimates about 2 years to get #1 up and running. Each one after that will incorporate upgrades and improvements until we perfect the technology so it can be easily replicated worldwide. Just so I'm being transparent, the entire commercial plastic reclamation module will sit on less than 1 acre of land since it is a Micro-plant and only capture 10-15% of Gloucester County's plastic waste. It will only create a few jobs in the beginning but we will eventually need at least 8 micro-plants spread across the county to capture 100% of Gloucester County's plastic waste. Here's why I'm doing it this way.

The micro-plant will produce usable products made from recycled plastic that will stay out of the waste stream almost permanently along with solid, liquid and gaseous fuels that will be used onsite to power the micro-plant's systems so it is not a drain on the power grid. Actually, when/if I can get all 6 different types of modules approved, up and running, they will be feeding power back into the grid 24/7 creating a more stable system. (Power levels to be determined after extensive testing.) I've mitigated over 80% of the worst pollutants coming from the systems and the other 20%, lesser of the evils, will be dealt with in later phases of the project depending on circumstances and other factors. Possible outcomes from simulations indicate complete campuses with all 6 modules are estimated to be significantly carbon negative. Campus design's maximum size is approximately 3 acres for all 6 modules. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

This isn't all about me, I will also be offering an incentive for you, a Gloucester resident, to participate. Once I get more official yes's and ok's I can divulge more info but if I can work some more magic, we will all benefit from the end results if you know what I mean๐Ÿค‘. Seriously though, if you are interested in working on this project with me then understand I will insist you sign a temporary NDA until such a time that the technology and the people are ready for each other to meet and we OPEN SOURCE it to the world. Hopefully by year 10 this tech will be available worldwide to help all of our neighbors. We're all stuck on this rock called Earth so we need to make the best of it until Elon can get us to Mars. Anywho, loose lips sink ships, we unveil the tech too soon and we lose the foothold on the technology, too late and we lose trust and support from the people. I have a time line of forward progression with a lot of obstacles already overcome so a big portion of the planning has been done but not all of it, now I just need to start working the plan to progress forward.

Some of my next steps are to do more fabrication on the prototype, run, test materials produced, tweak, run, test, repeat...until I have my hours in. I can use some help if anyone wants to volunteer your skills in welding, chemistry, engineering, legal and bureaucratic red tape, transcription of notes, research and development, Public Relations and political lobbying. If you want to contribute to humanity becoming a Type 1 Civilization then we're like minded. If you don't know what I'm talking about then let's make it easy. Type 1 is no electric bill, no water bill, no trash bill, no gas bill, no more pollution being put into the environment, no food bill....because we have figured out how to use all the energy from our planet. It's not magic, it's mad science. ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ

Alright yall, I have a lot of work to do still so keep being amazing neighbors and stay classy.

A big THANK YOU to Jay at Xtra 99.1 WXGM who had us on air last week to talk about the Gloucester Courthouse Little Free Pantry. We have had some donations recently and it's fairly stocked. We are thankful for a great community.

We always need donations. If you are cleaning out your pantry, or can pick up a few extra items at the grocery store, someone in your community will appreciate your generosity. Bring items directly to the pantry in front of Southern States Gloucester on Main Street.

If you are in need, stop by. No documents required. Take what you need and leave the rest.

Let's keep working together to keep our neighbors fed.

Hello neighbors, it's your Davenport Road Mad Scientist Quinton here in pure befuddlement at this weather we've been having. I guess we really did break it when Covid shut everything down in 2020? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Anywho, we're still open and we still have some basic household items and clothes available but I think we are actually starting to get a little thin overall. If you have visited The Giving Box this year then please tell us about your experience, whether good or bad. I only have a few new bags of donations to sort and put out. The only thing I have excess of is baby clothes, infant to two years old. I'm actually kinda pleased with the low volume because it means we are cycling through inventory and getting it to our neighbors. I do think we are going to need more donations soon so lets do that Spring Cleaning we've been putting off.

Open up your cabinets under your kitchen and bathroom sinks and get all those old cleaning supplies you never use, that one bottle of cologne you can't stand and that old vacuum you promised to get rid of months ago put in a box to go donate. Go through your linen closet and gather up those towels, bed sheets and old blankets you will never use, bag, label and add them to the pile. Get deeeeep in that food pantry too because you know there's that one can of whatever you keep for no good reason. ๐Ÿคจ Get those extra noodles, dried beans, rice and boxes of mashed potatoes outta there too. Go through your cans and check the "BEST BY DATE" and bring up everything from 2025 and 2024 because I have a couple neighbors that actually request these. Now, once you're done with all that, go out to your garage, shed or junk pile and start getting that stuff that's cluttering up your space and bring it over so a neighbor can put it to good use. Lawnmowers, w**d eaters, rakes, shovels, jet skis, life jackets, patio furniture...all that good stuff that can help a neighbor in need is welcome. Cars, boats, RVs, campers, tents, sleeping bags, mobile homes, literal houses.... I'll find a way to get it to a neighbor that needs it.

Hello neighbors, it's your Davenport Road Mad Scientist Quinton here with some general updates. Tuesday morning I'm supposed to have a group coming for that field trip so if you stop by, please be respectful to your neighbors. Thank you. Tomorrow I'll be getting some things ready around the box so come volunteer an hour or 2 if you want to lend a hand. If you have donations ready then tomorrow will be an excellent time to drop them off. We will still be open for normal business from 8 to 8 tomorrow and Tuesday.

We still have a decent selection of clothing, dry goods, books and household goods. You would probably still have some small bottles of laundry detergent but as I feared, a neighbor decided about 2 dozen were what they needed so my apologies for anyone looking for the laundry detergent. I suppose I'll have to ration it out like yall are children getting candy from now on. Anywho, I'm guessing no one wants the collard greens in the freezer so at the end of the day tomorrow I'll be cleaning out the junk that's been in the freezer for awhile. If you want it for your chickens or whatever come on early and save me some work, yeah?

In the Virtual Showroom we have just sealed a deal with Her 3 Boys Nifty Thrifty down in Hayes and I have established a limited credit with Fred and Tanya. They have a LOT of furniture, especially chairs...lots of chairs and a few appliances that they are willing to part with for the purposes of filling the needs on the REQUESTS list. That means if you are on the list then there's a good chance I either already emailed you or I will be emailing you very soon to fulfill your request. Don't forget to check your SPAM folder. If you have NOT heard from me by this coming weekend then please reach out to me somehow so we can get you squared away.

Field Trip
First up is the field trip from the Warsaw Recovery Support Center this coming Tuesday. I ask that yall respect their privacy if you stop by while they're here. Thank you. Since entering recovery last year for a mental breakdown myself, I have met some amazing people. One of them has taken the responsibility to setup this trip to The Giving Box to help others in recovery that are in need of a few basic household items. I think this is an amazing idea and I encourage other organizations to consider using The Giving Box as an option to help your people. If you want to bring one or two neighbors then come on but if you are trying to bring a group, let's schedule an appointment to make it easier. With all that being said I have a feeling we are going to need more donations of everything related to basic household items in the near future so if you were waiting for someone to tell you to get up and get started on your Spring Cleaning then wait no more cause I'm telling you its TIME to be the change you want to see happen in this world. We can do it!

Breakfast Meeting
Now on to that Faith Based Breakfast that I spoke at last week. For what its worth I'm exceptionally happy I decided to go. Besides Jane from Gloucester Emergency Management, I got to meet several of the pastors from local churches, a representative from Bay Aging, one of the Sargeants from the Gloucester Sheriff's Office, a talented young musician and the Executive Director of the Gloucester-Mathews Care Clinic. There was a lot of information put out so I'm not going to overload this post. Please message me if want to know more. I was invited back to speak again so I'm hoping I have new stuff to talk about next time. Wrapped up neatly, everyone was explaining how they are able to help our neighbors and what our neighbors can do to help each other. If you want to know more then message me please. In my opinion, with exposure like this, The Giving Box is going to get more popular and that means eventually we may have to build a second Box somewhere else. If anyone wants to accept the responsibility to have their own box let me know and I will do what I can to help. ๐Ÿค

Upcoming Projects
In the next month or so I plan to build a DONATION BOX on the gravel side of the box. I want to make a nice sign to put beside the road. I am going to build a frame for a bulletin board inside the building to leave notes on and stuff like that. I'm also going to be extending the roof and enclosing the front of the box to cover the ramp and steps area. The bamboo fence will be after that. If anyone wants to volunteer your time to help me then bring your gloves and come on to the box. Depending on the circumstances we may temporarily close for safety reasons during some of these projects so stay tuned for those updates.

Inventory in the Box
Recently I received a stack of GoodRx prescription discount cards. I'm of the impression that anyone can use them but not certain. If you know how it works, please let me know so I know if I can give these out or not. We're getting light on women's summer clothes, men's jeans and kid's clothes 6 years to 16 years. We're out or almost out of hygiene products, cleaning supplies, first aid items, frozen food, small kitchen appliances, silverware, plates, bowls, paper products, feminine sanitary products, linens, bed pillows, laundry detergent, bathroom towels and emergency supplies like matches, candles, etc. For the most part we'll take partially used items like cleaning supplies, shampoo and laundry detergent as long as they're relatively clean and aren't spoiled...don't be that person leaving funky junk from your trunk, ya dig?

Email Furniture
Ok, this one is going to be fun. A few days ago a very generous neighbor donated some very valuable items to The Giving Box. Being the kind of guy I am, we picked out a few items and decided to use the rest to help our neighbors. In a nutshell I traded it for store credit at Her 3 Boys Nifty Thrifty. I want to use this credit to "buy" furniture from them so they can make more room in their store. Doing this also helps my neighbors get what they need from the REQUESTS list. Now some of yall gonna go buck-wild over here but if you don't have a REQUEST already on the furniture and appliance email list then I recommend emailing your Giving Box representative and starting the process. If you are already have a REQUEST on the furniture and appliance list and I have not contacted you in the past few days then please email me so I can get your appointment scheduled to come pick out what you need at the thrift store. Fred, Tanya, at no point is anyone allowed to use this credit unless they have a confirmed appointment by you and me so watch out for anyone trying to pull one over on you.

Plastic recycling
Alright, now for a little mad science. I'm almost done with the prototype build of my plastic reclamation mechanism so here soon I will be testing it out for the Proof of Concept. After that I will be designing and building the first working commercial model. I could use a hand if anyone wants to volunteer your time to help me with any of this. Once I've gotten the bureaucratic red tape squared away and I can proceed without the EPA or someone breathing down my neck then I'm going to need a small spot of land, a small building and a crew of about 10 people of various skills to run this thing. At that point we will most likely be ready to pull the pin and see what happens. I want to be as transparent with this as I am with The Giving Box so knowing this is my plan, what are your concerns or questions (as a Gloucester, VA resident) about this business I want to start? For the record I plan to meet or exceed any pollution regulations out there if possible. If all my math works out right, there will actually be a negative net carbon footprint, which means we will actually be removing pollution from the environment. 99.99% of all reclaimed plastic will be repurposed into another usable product like fuel, stock materials for manufacturing or useful, practical products and electricity. This is an open discussion for my Gloucester peeps so yall tell me about it in the comments and see if I really am "mad" ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿคช

That's about it for this post so yall stay cool and hydrated. Please note the record that even though I'm currently in recovery from a mental breakdown I want to live. I'm not suicidal or trying to take unnecessary risks to get put in the ground. If I come up missing or worse like all this talk of those other regular scientists then know that it was not of my own doing and someone set me up.

As the days grow longer so have the "to-do" lists. I sometimes feel mine will never end but it's all worth the work. Hello neighbors, it's your Davenport Road Mad Scientist Quinton here with an email inventory list update. The furniture and appliances OFFERS have been almost depleted while the REQUESTS have grown. As a reminder, the only way to access this list of inventory is via email. It's a first come, first served basis and all items are free. I prefer you make arrangements for pickup but I can provide some assistance if necessary. Remember to keep your email mailbox able to receive mail or you may forfeit your turn in line because I am unable to contact you as I have already encountered this.
