Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK)

Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK) Helping at-risk dogs find loving homes since 2012. ARK was formed to fill a gap between at-risk dogs and the organizations or individuals that can help them.

Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK) is a unique, all-volunteer nonprofit organization that specializes in helping dogs that are hard-to-place, marginalized, and mislabeled as ‘unadoptable’ Since its inception in 2012, ARK has helped more than 1,000 dogs find loving homes. Through its unique capabilities and experiences, ARK embraces the challenge of finding homes for dogs that have had moments of poor

behavior which historically ended in euthanasia. To prevent this needless loss of life, ARK promotes the use of progressive and proven alternatives for solving and/or managing behavioral issues. We also support the growing number of open-minded shelters, rescues, and animal control officers who have incorporated best practices into their policies and procedures. Over the past several years, they have realized the same tremendous success that ARK has experienced – behaviorally challenged dogs transform into integral parts of the family after being placed in the right home and given time to adjust to a new life. Whether behavior manifests in a shelter or home environment, other options must be explored. In addition, ARK works to raise awareness about the population of dogs they serve because more work is needed. While many organizations have incorporated a more just and humane approach for managing dogs with behavioral issues, others are still making hasty decisions about euthanasia before trying all availalbe options. Further, dangerous advice is still being circulated by so-called professionals in the field. Thankfully, progressive practices continue to gain traction. We are grateful to the many dogs who are living proof that a dog’s fate must not be based on behavior alone. Though previously labeled unfit for adoption and given no options to succeed, their lives inspire ARK to Just Save Them®.

Look how good and active he is! Caesar is very friendly, loyal, and a high energy cuddlebug. He enjoys being with adults and children alike, but is best as an only pet. According to him, he’s all the dog you’ll ever need or want.

Built like a brick house, 90-pound Caesar plays hard but loves even harder. This 2-½-year-old male American Staffie enjoys running around a large yard. No space is too vast for his exploration skills. Wielding that girth around to show off his antics is a comedy routine in itself. He is a great match for an outgoing family with large dog or bully breed experience.

Caesar has an interesting background. He was born in a shelter in Pennsylvania along with 11 littermates! He and his mom were adopted by a family in Pembroke, MA. However, as time passed, the relationship between mother and son began to get “complicated.” Strong efforts to help Caesar overcome his mommy issues haven’t worked, so the dogs are kept seperated to avoid conflict. He’s no less loved than his mom, but he was chosen for rehoming because of his age, disposition, and potential to adjust to a new home.

He truly is a fantastic boy! An ideal home has experienced owners; a fenced yard or large space; no other pets; and any kids must be ages 7 and up due to Caesar’s size. This is a home-to-home adoption done with the support of a rescue that promotes safe and responsible rehoming. Please contact the owner at [email protected] to learn more. Small, sweet, and sassy describes this cute Aussie cattle dog from Hyannis, MA. Rye doesn’t ask for much, however she’s no lazy bones. As a healthy and fairly active nine-year-old, one of her favorite things is playing catch. She is great off leash and loves going to the beach or exploring in the woods. Being on a leash isn’t so easy for her, though she really likes long walks. She’ll bark and lunge at other dogs, but some redirection helps get her back on track.

A local rescue is helping her current person find a caring and appropriate family with dog experience. Rye was a puppy when she was originally adopted from a southern shelter. When she was four, her mom died in a tragic car accident. A dear friend took her in but unfortunately, circumstances changed and they had to move in with relatives who happen to have four children.

Rye is fine with the two older kids (9 and 13) who are mature and experienced with dogs. The other two are younger. Typically, herding breeds are not a good match for young, small, and/or rowdy kids. If you know cattle dogs, this environment doesn’t work well. She can be your only pet, or live with a subdued resident dog. With other dogs, her personality is on the strong side, so she’s not a match for dogs who also like being the “boss.” Currently she lives with a Jack Russell and another female cattle dog. She does well with the Jack, but there’s no love lost between the two girls.

This is a home-to-home adoption. Rye is very cuddly and is good company. She is potty trained and can be left unattended while you’re away. She is spayed and up-to-date on shots. She thrives on routine and positive reinforcement. Please contact Chantel via [email protected] and please say ARK sent you!

If we had to pick any one word to describe Zola, it would be exuberant. Her cheerfulness for life is infectious and can bring a smile to even the grumpiest face. She is a young dog who didn’t have the best start to life, but you would never know it with her love of people! She would do best with a person or family that is adventurous, but also will preheat her blanket in the drier—she’s a princess and she knows it!

Zola attended an intensive training program to help her learn manners and perfect her social skills, and now she is ready for a soft landing with a loving family. So if you’re looking for the silliest, goofiest and well trained girl in the whole world, Zola's the one for you! Contact us for more information.

Charlie is currently in a foster home but is in need of a forever one! This 9-month-old pittie mix is affectionate and loves to be loved on. He is a very good boy, not aggressive, and enjoys human companionship. Because he’s so young, he’ll likely to grow bigger, stronger, and sturdier. Faint-hearted adopters are not a match! He is however a great match for fun-loving and experienced people who play actively with their dogs.

Fortunately, Charlie is treat-motivated and plenty capable of learning good manners. He requires training with a dedicated owner who’ll use positive reinforcement as well as consistent follow through to maintain his skills. Training support is available if needed! He is already neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. He’s good with dogs, but he’s best as an only pet who keeps play dates on his social calendar. No young children due to size and training needs.

A lot of new dogs this week. First, this lovely German Shepherd has a smile that never quits! Five-year-old Leo is very sweet and affectionate even though he’s a big boy of 81 pounds! He likes being challenged, whether it’s through games and puzzles or a good run or hike, and he’ll need a devoted brainiac who loves and understands his working breed nature.

Though active, Leo appreciates even-keeled people and environments. No drama, no chaos, just a life with average days that have balance and routine peppered with amusement and companionship. German Shepherds typically enjoy a solo pet status. He is not a fan of other dogs and therefore needs to be your only pet. He also needs a fairly active adult-only home where weekends are more about doing things than watching TV.

Leo loves attention and being part of adventures. If you’re like-minded and have some large dog/working dog experience, he will be your sincere and steadfast friend. Please contact Animal Protection Center of Southern Mass, which is an excellent shelter, and tell them Animal Rescue Konnection (ARK) referred you! We can’t believe Waylon has not been adopted yet! If you value a genuine relationship with a dog, this is your guy. Approximately 5- to 6-years-old, he is not just smart and dedicated, he is keenly in tune with his person. He will look to you for direction and remain within ear shot.

A big part of Waylon’s life is his love and need for daily exercise and off-leash time. He loves to run free, but being such a good boy, he is normally in sight and comes back when called. He also has a good foundation of manners - sit, down, paw, and fetch. He deserves someone who will hold him to these skills and continue his training.

Currently living in a rural area, Waylon has shown he’s a natural farm hand. He does well around horses and other large animals and is unfazed by farm equipment. He’d make a nice fur-sibling with a large resident dog who also likes to play hard. We would love for him to be adopted by a family with land, but minimally a very large fenced yard for off leash play.

Waylon is great meeting lots of people during the rescue’s Sunday open houses. At first, he can be leary of men he doesn’t know, however if introduced with a cookie, he is generally fine. He’s been wonderful with children, but due to his size, older children are best. Please arrange to meet Waylon by contacting Live and Let Live Farm’s Rescue & Sanctuary in NH. Did you know shelters are full of teenage dogs? It's the most common age for surrenders, especially large dogs. They are a big bundle of confidence, fear, hormones and hubris, but as pet parents it's our job to get them through it.

Toby is a very handsome 3-year-old, 50-lb silver Lab mix with a gentle heart and soulful eyes. He is the kind of dog who forms a deep bond with his person and becomes an incredibly loyal companion. He is house- and crate-trained, walks well on a leash, and is getting to know his basic commands. He has wonderful manners and is very sweet and submissive with people—he doesn’t jump up and prefers calm affection and companionship.

Toby was raised with a Golden Retriever but didn’t have much exposure to other dogs growing up. Because of that, he can be nervous when unfamiliar dogs approach him quickly, especially face-to-face. With slow introductions and time to build trust, he settles in and becomes much more comfortable. He can be your only pet or live with another mannerly dog if the owner is experienced and will use tried and true strategies for creating a lasting canine bond. Both dogs should have slow introductions.

If you’re someone who enjoys walking, hiking, or exploring the outdoors, Toby would love to be right by your side. He truly is a super sweet, sensitive soul who just needs someone patient and kind to help him feel safe. In return, you’ll get a loyal companion who is happiest sharing life and adventures with his people. Unfortunately, Toby is crated for 13 hours per day. We consider this an urgent situation.
